  • ScratchX AND paint cleaner?

    Hi,

I'm planning to give my black car a complete "makeover" with these products:

    WASH:
G7164 Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner
    X2000 Water Magnet Drying Towel

    ABOVE SURFACE CLEANER:
    G1016 Smooth Surface Clay Kit

    BELOW SURFACE CLEANER:
    G10307 Scratch X

    POLISH:
    M0716 Show Car Glaze

    WAX:
    M2616 #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Liquid Wax

    OTHERS:
G7516 Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel
    X2020 Supreme Shine Microfire
    X3070 Foam Applicator Pad
A7301 Luxurious Lambs Wool Wash Mitt

However, will I need to clean the surface with ex. Deep Crystal® System Paint Cleaner or will the Scratch X do the job?
    I'll be working by hand.

if there's only light imperfections, I'd use DC 1 instead of Scratch X. I read many posts suggesting to use the least abrasive product as much as possible. DC1 is less abrasive than Scratch X.

Both products are paint cleaners and you can use either one. If you're just wanting to clean the surface of the paint to insure that it's clean then go with the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner. To use either product you work a small section at at time, about a foot squared or so and then wipe off after working the product over the surface. Don't let the product dry.

Then move on to a new section and overlap into the previous section. Continue doing this until you have gone over all the paint.

          Thanks for the quick replys

I have some swirls that I need to get rid of. My paint is with a clear coat.
I have read that the Scratch X is better (best?) when working by hand - that was my reason for choosing that

But I wohn't be needing both of them then?

ScratchX WILL remove the scratches more aggressively than DC 1 Paint cleaner will. However, it's going to be a fairly long process, because you're having to use some "passion" or "elbow grease" and really work it with some pressure to get in and remove the paint surrounding the scratch and level it out.

Don't get me wrong, ScratchX is a great product, but it takes a LOT of work to use it.

Indeed, ScratchX takes a LOT of work, maybe too much. It can be used as a replacement to DC1, but you'll spend HOURS on a regular car. I did it once on a badly swirled Jetta and I remember very well wishing I had a machine to help me do it. It can also be very hard to wipe residual product clean afterward.

i would suggest color x and then some nxt 2.0 after that should clean and hide good enough untill your next wash
