  • Hot Rims MULTI PIECE specifics

Hey guys, Whats the active ingredient in Hot Rims MULTI-PIECE wash that makes it effective? There is no MSDS listed for the multi piece only the AWC. It says non-acidic, non alkaline. The reason I ask is theres a store clearancing it and if it is safe on ALLLLL wheels, I could pick it up for my customers who have so-so clean wheels and have a cheap wheel wash for.

Is it safe to let sit similar to P21s. I know what the directions say but sometimes the directions arent what actually works the best.

Finally how is this rated as far as effectiveness for heavy cleanups on a 1-10 scale(for those who have experienced it) 1 being a car shampoo solution 10 being WB 3:1 or straight up

Everyone please chime in, but only in regards to the Multi-piece not the AWC.

    Much Thanks

I like the Multi-Piece a lot. It is a milder cleaner, so you may still need something stronger for bad cases. But I can do an enitre wheel in good shape in maybe 7 squirts... and even that is probably more than needed.

I dont usualy let it sit very long, just enough to spray on, aggitate with a brush, then rinse off.

Meguiar's doesn't share proprietary information and only includes on the MSD sheets what's required by law because to many detailing gurus try to become chemists and tell the world how products work by reading the MSD sheets.

The safer you make a product, the less aggressive it trends to be in it's cleaning ability, that's the trade-off for power over safety. When using a safe for all wheels wheel cleaner you may find you need to agitate the wheel with a brush or even apply the product twice.

When it comes to wheel cleaner and especially when it comes to someone else's wheels, it's best to follow the manufactures directions as they know their products best.

It's our absolute safest wheel cleaner, that's another way of say it's the least strong as far as cleaning ability goes when compared to our other wheel cleaners.

Our new Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner is basically Multi-Piece Wheel Wash re-packaged into a presentation that the average enthusiasts can better understand what the product is intended for use on. If a product is safe enough for straight, polished aluminum, it's safe enough for any other material or coating you would find in the wheel well area, thus it's safe for multiple components, or "Multi-Piece"

The best thing to do would be to purchase a bottle and test it out and see if you like how it works for your application(s) first hand. If you like it then go back and stock up!

        Hey Mike,

Does that mean both the Aluminum and the Multi-Piece cleaners will still be available, or is Multi-Piece going away?

Multi-Piece has been discontinued in label and is now available as Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner. So the label went away, not the product.

          Make sense?

It's a great product but it was decided to do a label change to better help people understand what the product was for and whether or not it was for them and their application.

I was checking to see if the Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner was acidic and according to the MSDS it does not contain any acidic ingredients, but I am curious on why it says not to leave it on for more than 15 seconds as if it is corrosive. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Hot Rims MULTI PIECE specifics

If anyone is loking for multi piece wheel cleaner, I know that my local Big Lots has a bunch of bottles for 3.50 each. Unfortunately that is the only Megs thing my Big Lots carries

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.

Where did you read this at? I just checked the MSD sheets on Meguiars.com and the product is hard to find because it's not listed with it's full name, just a portion of the part number.

The product name is: G9524 Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner

It's listed in the MSDS section here on Meguiars.com as G95 Hot Rims

I'll send an e-mail to the person in charge to have the list updated with a few more words to make it more identifiable.

Anyway, here's the link and there are two types of acid listed in the current MSD sheet.

You're not supposed to leave it on longer because it does in fact contain some acid for cleaning strength. It's also not an "all" wheel cleaner, if you read the back label it states not to use it on polished uncoated aluminum wheels, polished/uncoated magnesium wheels and anodized wheels. There maybe some other wheels or coatings listed but I don't have a bottle in front of me while I'm typing to check.

Hope this cleared up any confusion.

Re: Hot Rims MULTI PIECE specifics

I have machined clear coated and painted aluminum wheels. Going with the flow of least aggressive, I have purchased the Hot Rims Multi Piece wheel cleaner and it works great. Just simply spray, let soak a moment or at least long enough to get your brush and scrub away and rinse thoroughly.

I just picked up 6 bottles at Big Lots for $3.50 each. They also have Quik Wheel Detailer too that I may pick up.

It's good stuff and as Mike said, it's now repackaged Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel cleaner.

Just remember if you use a wheel cleaner, it usually strips any wax you have applied. I cheat once in a while and spray wheel cleaner on the lower parts of my car to get rid of the tar that's slung up there and although it removes it, the wax is gone too!

Hrmm now I am even more confused as previously in the post you mentioned that the Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner is basically just the Multi Piece relabeled and I thought the Multi Piece was Non-Acidic.

Also the Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Wash appears to be filed under G143 in the MSDS: http://www.meguiars.com/msds/G143.pdf Which doesnt show any acidic ingredients. I do see there is a just a "Hot Rims" which is product code G95 which is acidic but I think this may be different than the Aluminum Wheel Wash.

If you find out let me know.

                        Thanks,

A complete guess but I think maybe the Hot Rims Chrome Wheel Cleaner. The only reason I say this is because I have used multiple consumer line wheel cleaners, and it seems that the smell of Hot Rims Chrome is the most harsh and smells the most like Wheel Brightener, which leads me to believe that it is probably somewhat acidic.
