  • Winter Temps: Effects on Products

I've been curious about this ... I suppose most people keep their products in their garage all throughout the year - but I just 'cleaned house' recently and threw out a lot of products ... concerned that they have set too long.

Should one think about storage of their products during cold freezing, or near freezing, temperatures? I've simply got mine in a rubber-maid container and brought into the house until Spring. I was just thinking that is they sat in a cold garage all winter the properties might degrade a bit - I have no clue, really.

Any thoughts on temperature for storage?

def not a good idea, esp for scratch X and gold class...keep your waxes/polishes in one of your regular temped rooms in your house...with the exception of washing materials, etc..

I agree, the big no-no that I have always heard on the forum is not to let the products freeze. When it gets to around 40 thats when Ipull everything in from the garage. I also remember that as a general guideline. You products have a shelf life of around 3 years or so. Hope this helps.

I have products that are over 5years old and they are still doing great. A tube of Scatch-x is one of them..

I keep mine indoors at all times in the winter.

Like others have said don't let them freeze and you should be fine. One way to check if they are good is to shake them up good, if they are consistent you should be fine. Sometimes they will separate and won't mix back together, this is when it's time to throw them out. Products will tend to last a long time if they aren't frozen.

I accidentally let a bottle of NXT freeze, it lost any protective qualities and became watery. I just put a small radiant heater in the garage and turn it on when its supposed to get cold at night. Keeps it at a nice 55 degrees without trouble. If its REALLY cold, just bring it inside.

It may be finished or maybe not. Pour it into a clear container and see if it stays together. If so, put it back into the bottle and use it. But if it looks separated (clear liquid on a foggy liquid), then it is probably no good.
