  • Deep Crystal vs. NXT

Hi all, I'm new to this forum (and detailing in general). Past experience with Meguiars cleaner wax and gold class.

I was wondering what the differences are between NXT and the DC system. I am concerned with durability, and I like the one step of NXT, but wonder if the DC actually produces better results since it seems like more work (makes sense to me!)

How well is the DC system respected now that NXT is out? How about the pink car wash?

thanks all, I liked gold class a lot, but it seemed to go away very quickly.

    Hi there.

If your looking to replace steps with NXT I don't think you'll get the finished product you desire. NXT is a great finishing touch, but you'll still need the surface prep before hand to get the ultimate in results.

Durability, not to sure on this. I just wax as needed. I keep my cars outside 24/7 so I need to keep up on the waxing. I think I can safely go about a month between waxes. Just my preference.

DC will yield better results than NXT alone I'm sure. Yep NXT will take less time. You should really consider what time you want to invest and what result could you accept with the allotted time.

I used the pink car wash and switched to NXT wash. Both are great but I seem to like NXT wash better. NXT seems slicker on the cars surface.

I've used GC only once. Can't remember why I stopped using it.

    Good luck!!

Hey Doc and Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!

NXT Tech Wax is Meguiar's longest lasting sealant. It also produces an awesome finish! However, it is not a cleaner wax per se. It has specialized cleaners but these are very different than cleaners in a dedicated cleaner wax. So while NXT will give you a finish that is down right incredible, it is not a one step product.

To get the best from NXT, you should preceed it with an application of something like Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover. The surface should be polished, and then topped with NXT. Therefore, to compare the DC system to using the correct steps for the NXT, I would give a definite edge to the #9/NXT combo.

      I hope this helps!

Would DC1/DC2/NXT be a reasonable combo for paint that didn't need aggressive swirl-removal? You'd get the cleaned & polished surface along with the NXT protection...

          Hey Cam,

That combo would work just fine. Always use the least aggressive product necessary. So, I would try the DC2 (a pure polish) first and if you need something for swirls, then move on to the DC1. Then step back down with DC 2.

Either way, you will love the results when topped with NXT!!

            Hi DoctorB,

            Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

It looks like many of our other forum members have answered your questions, I tried to stay away from the computer over the weekend as I was celebrating my anniversary with my wife.

That said, allow me to chime in with just a little more information...

NXT Tech Wax is brand new technology. It uses engineered synthetic polymers created by Meguiar's R&D.

Deep Crystal System is a series of products, of which the Carnauba wax is actually a blended wax blending multiple ingredients including Carnauba together. They are very different products.

NXT Tech Wax is now Meguiar's best protecting wax formula. Durability will vary depending on a host of variables so Meguiar's doesn't make any specific claims relating to how long it will protect.

NXT Tech Wax is not a one-step cleaner wax. It is a product formulated to be used on new and like new finishes. If your finish is not like brand new, you should pre-clean and pre-polish your car's finish first.

The Deep Crystal System is still very popular. That's the interesting thing about Meguiar’s products, in most cases, when we introduce a new product, we gain more happy and loyal customers, we rarely see sales of existing products drop. Unusual but a testimony to Meguiar's products and our loyal customers.

Just recently, I held a Viper clinic here at Meguiar's. At the beginning of the class, we did our "Walk-by" and inspected the finish on everyone's Viper and asked the owners to share their car care maintenance program. As we came to one particular red Viper with an overall very very nice finish, that is little or no cobweb-effect, rich, clear high gloss finish, I was hesitant to ask him in front of so many people what he was using because I was afraid his answer might be another company's wax.

To my surprise and to my delight, his answer was,

            "The Deep Crystal System"

The Deep Crystal System is a high performing system-approach that when used correctly and regularly will produce and maintain a show car finish.

Gold Class Wax has a reputation of not lasting very long mostly I would guess because it doesn't bead water well. Interestingly enough, it was never formulated to bead water in the first place.

Gold Class, because it's a Polish/Wax, is very good at creating deep, dark crystal clear reflections with super high gloss. Like our polishes, Gold Class adds richness to any type of paint. Like any wax, the beauty level to which this product can achieve will diminish over time when exposed to outdoor environments and repeated washings, especially detergent washings.

The thing that slips by most people is that the appearance level all waxes achieve fall off over time, products like Gold Class and NXT Tech Wax have farther to fall because they achieved higher levels of beauty in all of it's dimensions.

I would highly recommend using the paint cleaner and the polish from the Deep Crystal System to prep you paint and then following with the NXT Tech Wax, I'm sure that if your experience is like that of thousands of others, you will be impressed with the results.

            Mike

            p.s.

Don't forget to evaluate the surface before any detailing work for bonded contaminants and if you find them, then clay your car first, (after washing), before applying any other products.

Thanks everyone! I see that autozone seems to have more meguiars stuff than other places, sort of hit and miss for the different products mentioned in this thread.

I am going to try DC1, DC2, NXT and see how that goes, should be fun, I have never done that much work on the paint before.

Thanks again for you great responses!
