NXT Booster Wax questions

About 3-4 weeks ago, I applied two coats of NXT Wax to my Lincoln LS (each coat a week apart). Now, 3 weeks after the second coat, I've tried the Booster Wax spray. It looks pretty good! I followed the directions and applied an even coat with a terry applicator and let it dry for about an hour. After buffing, I noticed the gloss is only slightly better than when I started (which was great!), but the biggest improvement is in the smoothness of the finish. The finish has been restored to the smoothness I had after the second application of NXT wax.

Questions on the booster wax:

1. Does the booster wax require the same "cure time" of about 12 hours like we've observed with the NXT wax?

2. When should the booster wax be applied? Since there are so many variables, my guess would be whenever it looks like it needs it.

I apply the booster wax on off weeks when I don't use the tech wax (which is about once every 1-2 months). Sometimes my car will sit for 2 weeks with nothing but a QD session.

You said you let the spray wax sit for an hour before you buffed it out. In my experience, it needs only 10-15 minutes.

I use the apply it wet technique. Goes on really fast that way. Just mist the car and spread while you dry! By the time I'm done with the entire car, the first area is dry and ready for a buff with a MF towel. Leaves my car looking like it was just waxed.

I have never specifically asked the chemist how long the NXT Spray wax should cure before re-applying anything, but I'll take a guess as because the Spray Wax contains the engineered synthetic polymers that the Tech Wax contains, that in a perfect world, you would want a window of time, approximately 12 hours to pass before applying any other product. This window of time insures that all of the polymers have fully set-up.

In my experience, time to wait hasn't been an issue because I after I apply and remove the Spray Wax, I tend to be done with the car until I need to quick detail it or wash it again and this is always at least a day later. (Usually there is enough dust in the air to tempt me to quick detail it so that I don't have to wash it with in a day or two).

Update.

First, thanks for all the responses. On the dry time, the reason I waited an hour was because I had something else to do, then I ate lunch. It wasn't a conscious decision, but worked out for the best.

I can confirm that several hours after buffing the spray wax, it was noticeably glossier. It was distinctly glossy two hours after wiping, then even glossier after about six hours. By the end of the day, the finish looked and felt nearly the same as a full application of the NXT liquid wax.

I've never used a spray wax before, so I learned a bit while I used it. First, the spray goes everywhere, so unless you're doing a big area (like the hood or door), spray the stuff on a pad and wipe. Don't spray it next to glass because the spray gets on the glass and trim. And don't use it when the wind is blowing!! Duh!

Also, I've observed that the key to ease of application with the NXT wax products (liquid wax or spray) is to use a small amount and apply a thin coat. Heavier applications do nothing but make extra work during the buffing process.

Do yourself a favor and use it dry. It's FAR less messy.

That would be my preference, plus I know I'm going to leave more product behind on the surface.

Hehehe, I dunno if I "like" using it wet, but it does work well both ways. About the only advantage I found to using it wet is that it's a REALLY fast way to apply the product. The drawback is that I'm obviously wringing a lot of product out of my drying towel and onto the ground where it's doing my car no good at all.

Another forum member mentioned spraying the booster directly on the applicator pad, and this is what I plan to do next. It's pretty windy where I live, and NXT booster is no fun to remove from glass.

One simple question here: Can I use the same set of foam applicator and Ultimate Wipe which I used for Tech Wax to be used with Booster Wax application? Cheers!
