  • NXT waxes for "modern paints"

    Hi !!
I've heard that NXT waxes are only or they do their better on "modern paints", and I think "modern" is related to water based paints.
I've also heard that Meguiars has 3 lines, one for each tipe of paint. So, you musn't put a NXT wax on a 90's car because the best results will be achieved by other Meguiars waxes line.
    I'm right?
    Thanks !!
    Regards.

Nope, you're wrong and you've been listening to people who are wrong. Would you mind sharing with us where you're hearing or reading this kind of misinformation? Especially if it's another discussion forum, we always like to find out who's saying what, that way we can forever give their name the credit it is due, plus nip the lies and misinformation in the bud.

Here's a 1960 Corvette, painted with a single stage, solvent-evaporation acylic lacquer paint system about 20 years ago. The after results kind of blows what you've been hearing or reading out of the water. If anyone hangs out at the Derelict Donuts on Saturdays here in SoCal you can often times find the owner crusing this car their and check out the NXT results on single stage paint yourself.

1960 Corvette - How To Restore Single Stage Acrylic Lacquer Paint

We often see questions about how to work on older single stage paints like Lacquer paint, or which product to use on non-clearcoated single stage paint.

Hopefully this little write-up will share with you the products and techniques to safely work on single stage paints like the 20 year old acrylic lacquer finish on this restored 1960 Corvette.

First, when we arrived and looked at this car while it was parked in the garage, the finish looked really nice as does the overall car.

However, after asking the owner/restorer to drive the car out into the sun where we can better see a more accurate representation of the true condition of the paint, here's what our camera captures...

Here are some before and after pictures after applying one very well worked-in pass of M80 Speed Glaze on this single stage lacquer paint with no wax applied as of yet.

    Before Side

    After Side

We found that because the lacquer paint was fairly soft, it was easy to remove about 95% of all of the swirls and scratches using M80 Speed Glaze with Meguiar's W-8006 Foam Polishing Pad on the G100 at the 5.0 setting.

After machine cleaning and polishing the finish to perfection, (or close to it), we then apply two coats of NXT Tech Wax Liquid using a W-9006 Foam Finishing pad on the G100 at the 3.0 setting.

After both coats of wax had fully dried and the Swipe Test indicated the wax was ready to remove, we use a Meguiar's microfiber bonnet on a clean, dry W-7006 Foam Cutting pad to remove the wax. We then removed our painters tape and pulled the Corvette out into the sun for some after shots.

Finished off with two coats of NXT Tech Wax Liquid Applied by Machine

Re: NXT waxes for "modern paints"

Thanks for your reply dear Mike,
This misinfo comes from a spanish forum, from a Meguiars flyer. It says that there are 3 wax lines in Meguiars, and each line is for a each type of paint (older ones, I think single stage; solvent based but recent; water based). This user also says that you musn't put a Carnauba wax over a water based paint, because there will be bonding problems. This info cames also from a comercial from Meguiars Spain.
He also says that the shine achieved by Autoglym waxes is much much better that the one achieved by NXT liquid wax. I've never used Meguiars and Autoglym waxes , so I can't confirm that...
Thanks Mike, you're help is much appreciated !!

        Hi Maesal,

Do you mean the Foro...... in Spain? I´ve been bying Meguiars directly from spain because in Portugal there is no Meguiars representation. I just bought NXT Wax and tryed it on my car Audi A4 Avant from 97 and a Mercedes Class C from 94 and the result is great. I´m fan of Meguiars and I´m sad to not be able to visit Sema to see the Meguiars News alive. Do you know the name of the comercial from Meguiars Spain?

          Hi my friend !!
No, I mean from an spanish Audi forum, in the section "Car Care". I dind'n check Meguiars waxes yet, but I think I'll try. I'm a big fan nowdaws os "acrylic" sealants as Klasse SG, Werkstatt Acrylic Jett Trigger or Chemical Guys Factory Sealant.
I'll look for this man in Spain and I'll send a PM.
Could you show me your results with NXT wax?
          Thanks !!

              Perfect mate !!
I think I should try also #21 as sealant, I love the results that I see in pix, but I don't know the drying/curing time, wich is very important because I'll use it in amateur jobs, and then I'll wax over it.
The problem in detailing is that there are lots of brands and I want (and most people) to try everything !!
              Regards my friend !!
