• A Zaino fan wanting to try NXT

Hey All,
I have a few questions about the NXT range but first some background info:

I've used Meguiars Gold Class wax and car wash for many years (1997 -2002) and liked the simplicity of the two products. I switched to Zaino Bros' products as I found Zaino was easier to apply and remove, was ok to use on lights/plastic trim (didn't have to mask off car) and also it seemed to last longer.

My car care routine is as follows:
Wash the car often
I use a "spray and wipe/buff" type product(Zaino Z6 Gloss enhancer spray) - used after every wash, after every wax and also when otherwise needed/wanted.
Wax every 3 to 4 months
Clay when needed
Remove any contaminants (bird droppings, insects, tar, tree sap, etc) ASAP.

Questions:

1) Does the NXT wax (not spray wax) have any abrasives? Or does it "fill" fine scratches?

2) Can Meguiars Clay bars be used with soapy water (car wash and water)?

3) I've read the FAQ but have a question for pple who have used both the Final Inspection and NXT Speed Detailer spray - have you found any difference with these products - application? results? protection? longevity on waxed car?

And when would I use the NXT speed Detailer and the NXT Spray wax?

4) Is it recommended to use warm /hot water (mixed) with the NXT car wash? If so, how warm/hot ?

Any other advice on Meg's range of products ia also welcome.

Thanks in Advance

Bye,
Mo

PS: I have read as much of the FAQ and search results as I can and thought it would be easier to ask the questions than to sift thru all the info on this forum.

heres my $.02. First off, I simply love the look and ease of application of NXT, but I think if your swiching from Zaino you will be dissapointed with the beading charcteristics, also I find NXT tends to lose its "pop" unless its taken care of, Speed Detailer quickly brings it back, the NXT booster wax is amazing if you use it correctly, I use it every few washes and it really brings the slickness and gloss back up to 100% quickly and easily.
I like to use lukewarm water for all my carwashes.
NXT does contain abrasives, BUT its such a small amount and there so mild its functionaly non abasive, I suspect there only added to promote adheasion to the surface
I find NXT has the abbility to "fill" the smallest of small micro maring,
I would be more than happy to send you a free small sample of the paste if you like

I think all the new nxt products are easy to remove!!!

?
I dont think most people here are into filling in fine scratches, I think they would rather remove them!!!

2) Can Meguiars Clay bars be used with soapy water (car wash and water)?

yes it can but they say that they break down the clay when used with water, I have zainos clay and asume that it would be the same composition, so I wouldnt be afraid of using it with diluted soap as with zainos

3) I've read the FAQ but have a question for pple who have used both the Final Inspection and NXT Speed Detailer spray - have you found any difference with these products - application? results? protection? longevity on waxed car?

I think its a your preference, I like to use warm water with anything I use

Any other advice on Meg's range of products ia also welcome.

Re: A Zaino fan wanting to try NXT

I've used Gold Class since it came out and it still can't be beat. NXT is fine--if you don't mind waiting forever for it to dry, Zaino is fine, but costs way more than it's worth. Zymol, ReJex, Adams all are good. But I have never seen anything beat Gold Class. And it lasts a long time. I've used it on my red Trans Ams, 1997 and 2000 and now on my black '06 Corvette. Either color, looks fantastic. And it's $6 cheaper than NXT. That's a free bottle of GC every second time you don't buy NXT. Obviously, I wouldn't have 4 cars including a new Corvette and new '07 Pontiac G5 if the $6 made any difference, but it is just another plus for GC. You can mix and match them, plus the spray waxes plus the QDs, no problem. Personally, I like Mothers QD the best, but they're all the same pretty much. Just my 2C mate!

Thanks for the replies guys

I've just received a sample of the NXT wax and have put on a coat just on the bonnet (aka hood in american ) Lets see how it fares. Its been a few months since I last detailed the car with Zaino.

Two questions:

1.) Liquid or paste?

2.) How satisfied are you with the overall appearance?

The sample was the liquid/cream not the paste (shouldn't make a difference tho).

Followed the instructions and applied as thin a layer as possible, found that the wax got quite sticky if applied too thin.

I let it set/dry overnight and wipe it off it this morning.

Appearance wise, I can't tell between Zaino and the NXT on my car (met silver), water seems to bead the same too - this could be a bad thing as the Zaino is a few months old on the car.

Over all, I found the NXT harder to apply and wipe off than Zaino, probably used twice as much NXT wax as i would have with Zaino ( I only added more NXT when the applicator got sticky on the paint) and found the results to about the same as Zaino.

Will see how it does in the nest few weeks.

I might try the Gold Class Wax again too. I really am hoping to find an alternative to Zaino and I think that either the NXT or GC will do the job - i don't mind the extra work (need the exercise anyway!) but my incentive for using Meg is that its easily available and its a lot cheaper than Zaino over here in Australia!

For those who want to know:
1) Car was washed, bonnet was clayed and washed again.

2) NXT was applied using a Meg applicator foam (first use) on to a cool car in my garage in the evening. Temp would have been around 15-20 degrees Centigrade.

3) Initial wipe off was with a Meg polishing towel followed by buffing with a Meg Gold Class Microfiber cloth.

Re: A Zaino fan wanting to try NXT

There is no need to wait over night for the NXT wax to dry. According to Meg's, all you have to do is take a clean finger, and wipe away a portion of the wax. If you see some residue left over, let it dry some more. If you see I nice clean finish below, then it is ok to buff away.

I just waxed my car last night (for the first time) using NXT liquid. I only had to let the wax dry for about 15-20 minutes before it was ready to be buffed.

I think waiting as long as you did made it harder to buff than it needed to be.

I know that there's no need to leave it overnight but that shouldn't make it any harder to remove/buff the wax.
