  • NXT Ultimate Challenge

As you can see from my other thread NXT on my MINI, NXT can make cars shine. But is it realy a challenge to make our cars shine? We take care of our cars, we use good products on them. Most of us on these fourms care how our paint looks. So making paint in good condition look good is impressive but what could it do on a much more challenging surface?

How about car paint that has been washed 15 times on a 4 year old car. A car parked outside for months at a time. A car with bird offal baked into the surface by the sun and left for months. Mystery marks on the surface from tar and substances unknown.
Now where in the world could I find such a car? As I said above we are all about our cars. This is where my Girlfriend comes in..... I love her dearly and she puts up with my car insanity but she kind of let her car go. So without further adu I present:

    NXT Ultimate Challenge
    2000 Kia Sephia

My task was to test just how well NXT worked on a car that would represent a more average persons car that would buy the product at say a PepBoys.

This car has not been washed in atleast 5 months. It was baked in the sun for several months durring the day time and garaged at night.

Here is the hood at the start of my experiment:

You can see the dirt buildup, I have closeups of the bird offal but we don't need to see that..

    Time for the NXT CarWash
I was suprised how well it worked, I was using Meguiar's Deep Crystal car wash before and it put that product to shame.
One intresting note is that Mike P. Told us when using it not to use the high pressure sprays from the hose, he said use the lower pressure ones and let the water sheet off.

My water is HARD and If I let a car dry in the sun it will look like a dalmation from all the spots, the softening agents in this wash did there job and not a spot.

It's also THICK, Like Heinz Ketchup thick but stickier, I used 1 gallon of water and 1oz of the wash for the whole car.

As you can see it did a good job of getting the surface dirt off, some elbow grease got the bird offal off.

At this point I will be using a PC/DA, I know most home users wont have one but that's there fault not mine.

I also broke out the #83, this paint need some SERIOUS work. Frankly it would take Mike P. or Brian a few days with the Orbital buffer to get this paint into good shape. There are several scrapes down to the metal, and the paint is awash with scraches.

The #83 did it's job and removed 80% of the scraches that where near the surface and little. It took a while and full power on my PC/DA but after we removed the Cleaner the paint looked much better.

Now I used the NXT TechWax, Wax On, Microfiber Bonnet on the DA, WaxOff.

And this is what we get:

    Results:
2 hours from buckets wet to photos. The car went from embarrassing to stylin.

While there is nothing the NXT could do about the paint chips and other deep issues it did a very good job with the remaining paint.
From these pictures you can see the progression but it isn't clear how well it worked till you see it side by side. Check out my post below for that image.

        Hi Brad,

Impressive work, great idea, and excellent write-up!

I don't think I can add anything more. Thanks for sharing your results. Is your girlfriend happy?

                  You guys are offal...
BTW she did bring me home brownies from work, which if you consider she is a Pastry Chef for The Farm of Beverly Hills it's all kinds of good.

They ship the brownies world wide, they are $8.95 for 2 of them.
