  • Tech Wax on Vinyl graphics?

First off I want to say thanks to Meguiars for making quality products, I have used them for over 25 years and am never disappointed. The NXT lineup has surpassed my expectations and is yet another allstar in Meguiar's long history of car care.
My question is this. On the Tech Wax bottle, it says do not apply over vinyl. I have a truck with vinyl tribal flames on it, and was wondering what could be used. Before using the Tech Wax, the flames were about the same gloss as the paint, but after applying a few coats of Tech Wax, the flames look dull in comparison! Any help getting them to "pop" like the rest of the truck would be appreciated.

    Hi CaliCrewzin,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

As to our question, one thing you might try it to polish the vinyl graphics using some M-1708 Plastic Cleaner

    It's pictured here in the

    The Clear Plastic Collection

#17 Plastic Polish contains a light cleaner that may help to loosen and remove the wax from the vinyl while turning it dark again.

I'll also forward this on for some other ideas.

Thanks Mike! I'm actually looking for something to get a little gloss on the graphics. They're only a month old, and I carefully applied the Tech Wax on the paint around them because I didn't know if it would adversely affect their appearance. I tried a little of the Tech Protectant, but it still doesn't compare to the gloss of the paint.

The plastic cleaner is rich in polishing oils and it will help to add gloss to the vinyl. Another product you might try is Gold Class Trim Detailer. This is a rich conditioning lotion that may help to remove some of the NXT Tech Wax just by way of rubbing/polishing it against the vinyl and then removing the excess.

The problem with vinyl graphics is they are kind of delicate to start with, especially the edges.

Two coats of NXT Tech Wax on hood & vinyl stripe. No problems.
