  • FI vs QD

    Hi guys,

What do you usually use for wiping off while detailing. I've been using quik detailer but it runs out so quick. I've been thinking about switching to Final Inspection but I was wondering if there were a difference between the two products? I can order FI in gallons so it would be cheaper for me. Thanks!

    Regards,
    Mike

imo.i think final inspection gives a better gloss and slickness.and it was easeier to wipe on and off. it also spreads really well too.
anyways if it is cheaper for you to buy fi in gallons why not do that anyways.

You can order both Final Detail and Last Touch in gallons.

You can get the "Last Touch" in 5-gallons also.

Save your Quik Detailer bottles for pouring off into because the spray head has an awesome atomizer.

Thanks Mike! What's the difference between Final Detail and Last Touch?

Also, how do I take off the head in the quik detail spray?

I think he meant final inspection..........last touch is replacing final detail in the detailer line and final inspection is in the pro line. final detail has silicone in it for even more shine, its what I use and I love it, haven't got to try last touch yet but I heard the main difference is the smell is cut down. but fd has a good smell.

              Hey,

              Just to add,

Last Touch has replaced Final Detail. The good news is that Last Touch has been improved over the Final Detail. I have found Last Touch to be very slippery and leaves a fantastic gloss. It also smells like banana/coconut.

To remove the QD spray head, just turn the head; It is threaded on.

                  Hey 2000,

I am not sure if it is silicone or what the ingredient is, but it is not Body Shop safe. I will say this though, this stuff is slippery!!! It is great stuff!!

Here is a pic of Last Touch:

Can someone explain to be again the difference between bodyshop safe and not bodyshop safe? That always scares me, like I'm going to destroy my paint.

You won't destroy your paint. The idea with body shop safe is that the chemicals in the product naturally end up in the air (that's one reason you can smell them, right?). Body shop safe means there are no chemicals in the product that will interefere with the painting of another car in the shop. If silicone gets in the air, it would ruin a paint job going on somewhere else in the shop. That's my understanding, at least. Others feel free to correct or amplify.

Because one black car just wasn't enough . . .

                        mike_c70,

                        No need to be worried....

Body Shop Safe means there is no chance of contamination in a silicone sensitive environment, primarilly a paint shop. On our labels we also refer to this as "Paintable".

A product that is not body shop safe, should not be used around a slilcone sensitive environment...."Fish Eyes" may occur. This is where the paint does not want to stick to the contaminated area, and causes little crater like defects. This is especially a risk when you have airborne products (products that are being sprayed)

Some people confuse all "silicones" as the contributor to contamination, but there are actually many silicones which are "paintable".

If you are not working around these sensitive areas, you do not need to be concerend at all.

                        I hope this helps.

Here's some interesting reading from Meguiar's new FAQ

                          1. What's the difference between Quik Detailer, (A-33) and Final Inspection, (M-34)?

                          2. Do either Final Inspection or Quik Detailer remove wax?

                          3. Do either Final Inspection or Quik Detailer contain wax?

                          19. Are products that contain silicone bad for my car's finish?

                          20. Should I use a non-silicone product to maintain my car’s finish?

                          10. How soon can I wax my new car?

(The last link has to do with body shop safe polishes for fresh paint, or even cured paint)
