  • It hasn't lasted very long for me

Here is a picture that took of my car on April 23rd. It's been just under 2 months since I polished my car up. My process was:
    Clay bar
    DACP w/ pc at 5
    NXT w/ pc at 2

I've washed my car maybe 4-5 times since. I use the NXT wash with sheepskin mit, two bucket method, and yellow Costco micro fiber towels to dry. We've had a mild two seasons than what is typical here in Oregon.

The water that the local municipality delivers is very hard. So hard that we have had to hydroseal all of our porcelain in our house as the water stains the toilets and sinks.

Having said all of that my experience with NXT is that it has not lasted as long as I would have liked. The paint still sheets a bit but I feel that it has lost a bit of shine and slickness. What I do not know is why it has not lasted as long. Is it the water?

You can try using the NXT booster spray wax to help lengthen the space between actual wax jobs.

I'd try a water softener, add a little to your wash bucket and see if that helps. You could have alot of mineral deposits being left on your finish from your city water.

What about this... What kind of car wash soap are you using?

I have had great luck with nxt and only wash with Gold Class Soap or NXT Soap.

This is a little off topic but... I will say if you take it to a "do it your self wash" you know pop in the quarters, kiss that wax good by after a time or two, I feel ANY wax really drops in shine and depth after a few "do it your self washs".

          NXT Durability

I thought that my NXT was gone after 2 weeks. I washed my car and there was no sheeting when I rinsed, just a bunch of flat water spots. There was a film that felt like very fine rail dust or road sealant. I clayed and rewaxed. I can't really blame the deposition of some kind of fallout on NXT. That happened sometimes with MPPP too. I just hope it doesn't happen too often with all the construction going on around here.

I am now comparing NXT with MPPP on the hood of my car. I applied 3 coats of each product. MPPP does appear to attract less dust that is more noticeable as the dust piles up. However, once a QD is used (Final Detail for me) the difference disappears. NXT does fill fine swirls better and shines a little bit better.

If NXT lasts two months, I would find that acceptable given the shine it provides. I can always use the Spray Booster Wax to extend it.

Maybe I'm being a little too critical of the product. In all actuality both of my cars look great and my Porsche has never looked better. I can attribute this to Mike helping me out. Thanks Mike

Clay a small section of the hood of your car and then compare it to the rest of the hood. Does the clayed section seem a lot smoother? It could be environmental contaminants affecting the beading and slickness rather than the NXT disappearing. This happened to me recently.

OF course once you clay, you have to reapply the NXT. But sometimes you get tree sap mist, road sealant mist, or even rail dust and there is not much you can do about it. If you can find out where you picked it up you may be able to aoid it. What do people that work at airports or foundries do? Paint problems have to be more frequent near these areas.

If you QD every day or two that can usually prevent tree sap from sticking to the paint. But if you get rail dust or tree sap on it you're screwed. No wax or polymer sealant will prevent that from sticking.

I will drive miles out of my way to avoid road construction. But now virtually every road between home and work has construction going on and it is becoming extremely difficult to avoid it!

I don't realy know what was on my car this last time. It was very fine and you could only feel it, not see it. Only by claying a small section could I tell a real difference. I couldn't even see anything on the clay when I was done! I hope this is not a frequent occurrence.

I get that same problem you just encountered about the mid to end of april every year. I was always blaming it on all the pollen and dew around here maybe working its way into the wax and other stuff. I only encounter it this time of year. I really get annoyed because I like to clay as soon as winter is over and that is around mid march here and then I usually have to do it again about month to month and half later. But after this its fine the rest of the year.

I'm also having beading/sheeting issues, BUT...the appearance is still outstanding and the car feels like glass through the wash mitt and while drying with a microfiber. Most visible contaminates are fairly easy to remove during the wash too.

When I used ZAINO, I had similar issues and I found that after a mild DAWN wash, the beading/sheeting returned. I figure it's due to living in Akron, the home of GOODYEAR. I haven't tried a DAWN wash on the NXT though.

DevilDog, that does sound similar to what I had. Maybe it was a "natural" conatminant. Whatever it was, it came from the air not the ground because it was only on the hood roof and trunk of the car. Tree sap normally comes right off without clay, but maybe that varies with the kind of tree.

Majik1, I heard that airports are not friendly to automotive paint. What causes the most problems, the jet exhaust particulates? Does it leave a gritty feel on the paint? Using the SBW every 2-4 weeks sounds like a good idea. Be sure an post some pics and long term results.
