  • what should i use to hide th swirl before using nxt liquid wax ??

should i use cleaner wax ??? does it hide the swirl and prepare the paint for nxt liquid, since that my car is brand new and i am working on stoping the dealer from washing it before the delivery so it won't have swirl, i will be doing the job back home. i am planing to use NXT liquid and gold class micofibers towels and some applicators ,
but i think after i went reading some of the topic over here ,before i apply the wax i need to prepare the paint so i am planning to do :

1-cleaner wax -----> prepare and clean the surface ( does it hide swirl )

    2-NXT liquid

3- thinking of using the nxy spray wax .

    any suggestions
    Regards

    Hi M.J.

If your car is brand new and you are able to keep the dealer from touching it, i.e. washing it, then you should be able to go straight to wax after washing it yourself.

Meguiar's always teaches the philosophy of evaluating the finish to determine what products are needed to achieve a show car finish.

Perhaps you can wait until you actually take possession of the car and can evaluate the finish?

If the car does in fact have swirls, a better choice for removing them and preparing the paint for wax would be to use ScratchX by hand.

ScratchX is non-abrasive in that it won't scratch paint. If you haven't already, take a few minutes to read the below link and soak in all the information, especially the part on paint cleaners, polishes and waxes.

I'm out of here for the day... I'll be glad to answer any of your questions tonight when I come back online...

You can certainly remove the swirls, no need to hide them.

Products like ScratchX and ColorX which are abrasive and for use by hand, are very very very far from something like sandpaper, or an old-school abrasive.

If you really want a cleaner/wax, possible to help cut down on steps, I really like the ColorX. It seems like it is called Color Booster Wax in some parts of the world.

Sorry Mike but can you explain I thought ScratchX was abrasive.

            Thanks

ScratchX is not abrasive in the 'old-school' way. In the old school, being abrasive meant being like sandpaper, where you used a product that left scratches in the suraface. Then you had to use a product that left milder scratches. Then a product that left milder scratches, and so on until you had the finish you were looking for.

Many people still associate the word abrasive with leaving marks behind. They also associate it with somethign being so agressive it will tear through your paint if not carefull.

With Meguiars diminishing abasives, no marks are left behind, so it does not fit the 'old school' abrasive definition. ScratchX is also strong by hand, but no where near strong enough to go through your clear coat. Maybe if you worked ScratchX in hard every week for a couple years it would break through, but if I rubbed my finger on the paint long enough, it would break through as well....

I think M.J. was concerned about using these old-school type abrasive products on his paint, so Mike wanted to be clear that they are no where near the same thing, even if the same words pop-up in discussion.

I recommend foam applicators, such as Meguiar's High Tech foam applicator, for applying car waxes.

Microfibers work best for removing waxes.

The Even Coat Applicator is also good for waxes. MF towels are used to remove waxes/polishes/cleaners/etc.
