NXT foam applicator??

how do i clean the foam applicator that came with the nxt wax after i am done using it to get the old wax out??

I just toss my aplicators in the washer with my detiling towels add a little woolite and it works quite well. Seems to me, somewhere I read that they were machine washable.

One way it to roll the wax pad up into a terry cloth towel, or a microfiber polishing cloth and then squeeze the towel around the foam pad. This will act to absorb/strain the wax into the towel or polishing cloth. (Or course, now you have to get it out of the towel or polishing cloth.

You can try rinsing under some warm water and soap, but the polymers in the Tech Wax are water resistant, and detergent resistant, so you might find it difficult to completely clean the applicator pad.

A while back, some folks on another forum were actually complaining about the fact that the wax pad was difficult to clean. Another way of saying this would be,

Seems like I've had that problem with MPPP & #26 before.

That just lets me know that Meguiars makes a durable product.

Hey Mike,

Well I have to agree with you fully on that one! NXT is really difficult to get out of the foam applicators! When Meguiar's makes a detergent resistant product, they know what they are doing!!

NXT is definitely hard to get out of the applicator pads. Soaking it in Dawn will and then squeezing it out will help. However, I do not recommend using Dawn on your car's finish.

Not to get off topic, but BEWARE if you go to a fund raising car wash. Many of them use Dawn and if you use one of those you will most likely have to rewax your car. I learned that a long time ago. Fortunately I had #6 Cleaner Wax at home for emergencies like that.

Cleaning NXT foam applicator

I clean my NXT foam pad with charcoal lighter fluid, squeezing out all the old wax, followed with a lot of clear water, then let dry. For me, this returns the pad to like new again.

I would have never thought of that one. Is it hard on your skin? Or do you wear gloves?

Please do not smoke while cleaning your foam pads if you are going to use lighter fluid to clean them.

I've heard wackier ideas that worked though

Thanks for the welcome, Mike, this is a great forum. I dont wear gloves when using lighter fluid to clean the pad, and it has not affected my skin, but wearing gloves would probably be wise.
Also, let the pad dry for a day or two so all of the solvent is evaporated. Turpentine would probably work also.
I have a black Z06 Corvette and black Caddy CTS-V, and NXT is the best wax I've found for black paint, it gives it a deep clear shine.

When my pads get old and full, I just go out and buy new ones. They aren't that expensive.

When Cleaning my 6.5" PC pads I think I too have more trouble with #26 than I do with NXT Wax!?!
