using #20 after #7

    hey guys. I am using #7 for the first time, and I would like to know if it is ok to use #7 first and then use #20. I heard someone say that if I use a polymer sealant or wax, that the deepness and darkness of color that #7 gives will be lessened. True? or not true??

    Yes. This is perfectly acceptable. Point of interest, I used this combination for years after doing a complete rotary buff-out on a customer's car followed with an application of #20

    Maybe, generally speaking, most paint protectant won't add to the clarity a pure polish will create, there are some exceptions such as Gold Class Wax and M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax.

    Products like M20 have a little bit of a cleaner in them and on black paint you may see a lessening of richness of color/darkness but you'll tend to increase shine and slickness.

    Most people would never see a difference, but the important point is you've applied a barrier coating over the #7 to lock in the results it produced and to protect the paint. Go for it.

      I did this for the first time about a month ago after my first Clay>Clean>Polish. As soon as I first rubbed the first patch of #7 on I was awestruck. I stopped right there. Went and got a cup of coffee and made sure I was setup very well to proceed before starting. It literally stopped me on my tracks. After applying the #7 I then went for the #20. Didn;t seem to loose the look. Maybe some but not enough that my untrained eye could tell. I waited till the next day and again put on the #7 then #20. Loved the look.

      But, I like to experiment so the next week, I did #7 then #21. Waited a day then #7 then #21. Loved that as well. Waited about 2 weeks then did #7 then NXT, Waited a day then repeated that. That's where I am at now. Thinking next I'll try the the Machine Glaze then #26 and repeat and see what that looks like. I am working with white paint so I am curious as to what to expect.

        I clayed, then used #7 followed by the NXT on my Summit White '05 Yukon Denali. Wow! But next weekend I think I'll do the #7 and #26...possibly following that with the NXT. Maybe it's overkill...thoughts?

          I would apply the NXT right after the #7, and then the #26 as a topper if you want to try the combination of both products. NXT is a pure sealant while #26 is combination wax/sealant.

            Jeff, you really do like the experiments: that's great! To this day, I still like to play with such combinations on varying paints to see what I like best.

            We did lots of new car "clean for delivery" jobs for dealerships in our area. We used #26 as our LSP unless someone requested and paid for #21 sealant. We did not offer the "lifetime paint sealant guarantee" or any of that hype, we just gave them a very durable, good looking finish.

            One one particular day, there were 2 IDENTICAL new Cadillac Sedan DeVilles parked side by side. One was ours, one was done by the dealership "paint sealant guaranteed for 5 years" program shop. Same guy sold both cars. This salesman came out to see me, exclaiming how much better ours looked than the ones from ***. He was so convinced now that he dragged other people out to look, proving that he "was right that Pete did far better work and had better results than high-priced ***."
