  • Some question on #84

Just bought a gallon of #84 and would like to confirm what should be the texture of #84. I find #80 looks slightly thicker than #84 and the colour is light brown, is it normal ?

Can we use #84 with a PC or only strictly with a rotary ?

My M80 is thin and green while the M84 is thicker and light brown.

M84 is only recommended for use with the rotary...as far as I know.

Hi ebpcivicsi, thanks for the reply. I also feel that #84 should be thicker than #80, for your case is #84 very much thicker than #80 or only slightly ?

I also understand that #84 is recommanded for rotary use but just wondering anyone here has used with a PC or G100 with good result .

M84 is thicker than M80, before checking this, make sure you shake each product up very well which takes some effort when they are in gallon size containers and when they are full as there is little room for the product to move around in the jug.

If you feel the M84 between your fingers, it will feel smooth and creamy, not gritty or abrasive, this is because the abrasive used is microscopic in size, it is very sharp and cut's very fast but it only works effectively when applied with a rotary buffer not a a dual action polisher which compared to a rotary buffer in it's action is very, very gentle.

Meguiar's does not recommend using M85 or M84, or even M01 or M04 with the dual action polisher because we know we offer products that will work better with the dual action polisher and we don't want you to be disappointed with the results you get using these rotary buffer products with a dual action polisher and we also don't want you to get into trouble with them.

Hi Mike, thanks for the information. The #84 I have does feel smooth and creamy, not gritty or abrasive, but the only worry I have is my #80 seems slightly thicker than the #84 I have. Tommorow I will do a good shake with the gallon bottle and see is there any different. Btw is #84 much thicker than #80 or only slightly. Thanks.

I would say that it is much thicker, or perhaps noticeably thicker would be a better description.

M84 has a thick consistency, M80 has a consistency in-between a product like M84 and M07 or Deep Crystal Polish. Somewhat like Jergens hand lotion.

                Correct me if I'm wrong:

M84 for rotary with FOAM cutting pad,

M85 for rotary with WOOL cutting pad.

I am astonished at how fast these products work, it's the hardest thing for me to get used to when I'm using the rotary. A hood that might take a half hour with the DA and M83 or M80 takes a few minutes with #84 and a maroon pad at the lowest speed. And the finish is like glass.

I'm not an expert with the rotary, by no means, but I'm not afraid of it anymore either. Keep the tool moving, and keep it flat, and keep it away from edges. And tape everything up to make cleanup easier!

                  The product/pad recommendation chart says:

                  M85 – W4000 wool pad
                  M84 - W4000 wool pad or W7000 foam pad

                  PC.

Hey guys, I did a good shake with the #84 I have but the texture still looks the same. But I still go ahead and use it with a rotary, the swirl marks came out effortlessly as compare to #83 with a DA machine. As I mentioned earlier, the texture of my #84 and #80 looks quite simliar and since #84 seems working alright, do you guys think that I should go ask for a replacement ?

                      That's up to you.

M84 is tan in color very much like the tan color of the bottle you pour it out of and M80 is a light greenish color. Can you take a picture of how each product looks when shaken and poured out of the bottle?

Hi Mike, sorry for the delay. After you suggest try taking photos on #80 and #84, I went todo a simple experiment and the result does show #84 is thicker than #80. I laid 2 5" long strip of #84 and #80 side by side on a piece of card board, than I hold it vertical and #80 started to flow downwards but #84 still stay in the 5" strip for quite a while.

The last few details I was faced with water etched marks, after 4 passes with #84 + W7006 on a rotary at 1500rpm, 70% of the etched marks still remains. For cases like these in future should I use the wool pad with #84, do you think this will help ? Or is there a better recommandation for such situation.

Bump. Can anyone advice whether #84 can be used with a wool pad to remove those deeper water etched marks ?

Yes, you can use M84 with a wool pad, it is formulated to work optimally with a foam cutting pad, but it should work just fine with wool for your application.

You might want to add some M85 Diamond Cut Compound to your arsenal for heavy cutting with a wool pad.
