  • Diluting Last Touch

Well, I like Last Touch because it's pretty thick and lubricating. The most common issue on my car is dust, and I like that Last Touch is so lubricating. However, I spray a lot of it since the car is dusty. And this invariably leads to horrific streaking. I've found a two-towel trick doesn't work, because the problem is the QD drying up too quickly. More towels won't help that. However, a second, lighter application of Last Touch works pretty well.

Anyway, wiping the large Aurora down twice isn't really my favorite idea. It already takes me about 15-20 minutes to do it once. So I tried adding about 10% distilled water to the solution of Final Detail (about 1-2 ounces of water to about 16-17 existing ounces of LT).

It does seem to help with the streaking without making the Last Touch particularly watered down. However, now the problem is that large volumes of spray stay wet for a pretty long time. Using twice as many towels works pretty well, though. So far, mildly diluting the product seems to be the way that works best for me.

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for this feedback on your experience with Last Touch quick detailer. Were you ever a use of Final Detail? If so, how would you compare them? Out of all Meguiar's quick detailers, which one or ones do you prefer the most?

Yes, I was a big fan of Final Detail. I still have about 1/4 gallon of it, but feel compelled to "save" it for some reason, which is probably dumb as it won't stay good forever.

In my experience, Last Touch is a bit more lubricating and feels a bit "thicker", though Final Detail is still really good in this regard. They both leave a very glossly finish, and Final Detail would even cause water to bead up. I don't really drive the car in rain anymore thus haven't noticed if LT does that too.

I did find that Final Detail was easier to use, though. I never really had streaking problems with it when used normally.

I would say Final Detail is my favorite of Meguiar's Quick Detailers. And Final Detail and Pinnacle Crystal Mist are probably my favorites of all QD's.

Pinnacle isn't really suitable on dusty cars, though. It doesn't feel as lubricating. But Last Touch/Final Detail followed by Pinnacle Crystal Mist is a nice combo, sort of the glaze and wax of the quick detailer world.

Hey Mike, I decided to break out the Final Detail again and have used it a couple of times recently. It really is easier to use, and yields very similar results. I've also noticed the smell is a bit less pronounced. I liked the smell of Last Touch at first, but the more I use it the more I wish it smelled less strongly. If the Final Detail bottle didn't leak so profusely at the neck, it would be just about perfect.

It might be my imagination, but it seems like Final Detail makes the car bead a lot more than Last Touch does.

I still have 1/2gal of final detail but have using last touch exclusively lately. Given a choice performance-wise, I prefer final detail. Plus, after wiping down a full car with last touch, I can't get the smell of last touch off of my hands for almost a full day afterwards! (even after washing my hands multiple times) After I use up the last of my last touch, I don't think I will buy anymore of it just because of the smell.

It's funny you mention that. When I first got Last Touch I thought the smell was kind of nice. Sort of tropical. But the more I use it, the more I hate the smell. It's very strong, as you said. The whole garage smells strongly of it, and the laundry room where I put the towels. My hands also smell for a while of it. It almost (almost, but doesn't) makes me feel queasy.
