  • Wash between M205 Polish & M21 Sealant? M21 & Wax?

in these 3-steps of a multistep complete paint detail,

    1. Meguiar's Ultra Finishing Polish #205
    2. Meguiar's Synthetic Sealant 2.0 #21
    3. Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax

should I wash between Polish & Sealant?

how about between Sealant and Wax?

and, if recommended, after my initial/prep "Dawn" wash, should *these* washes also be with Dawn? or with, e.g. GoldClass wash?

    thanks!

I always apply right after i polish, so just polish wipe off, and wax no need to wash

I was asking about the necessity for wash, or not, with Sealant in-between the Polish & Wax steps. Specifically want to know it the Polish's "grit" needs to be removed with more than just a wipe-off, and if the Sealant needs any sort of cleaning prep.

After a polish, polishing oils are left over which hide imperfections, some do an IPA wipe down to remove these and see how well the paint was corrected. IPA wipe down would be quicker than washing the car again.

Yes you can wash after polish and before sealant, is it necessary? Depends on you and the car. I don't add extra steps on a daily driver or someone who is looking for a basic detail. On a weekend, performance, exotic, high end car or a customer willing to pay no steps are skipped.

Between sealant and wax no wash or prep. Apply sealant, buff, let cure then wax.

Ok, got it. For me, this *is* a daily-driver, but I've maintained it in fantastic working condition for 20+ years now -- and would like to get back to a finish to match. This time & going forward, doing it myself. So, for me, no skipped steps.

          Thanks!

          EDIT:

          One additional question ...

If I *DO* wash between polish & sealant, is another 'stripping' Dawn wash or a 'nourishing/conditioning' wash, e.g. Meg's GoldClass shampoo, called for? Don't want to 'nourish' with any oils/etc that 'interfere' with the Sealant's adhesion, etc.

Well, again, no need for washing between polish and wax, at least as far as Meguiars goes.

But if you wanted to, or had gotten some dirt on the paint in between, then while using Meguiars products, and most companies, you would want to be as mild as possible, so the Gold Class would be good.

There are one or two companies that want the surface clean with no polishing oils of their products, and so for those you may want Dawn, or IPA, etc.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering about. Sounds like an all-Megs chemicals process, not required, but optional.

As I'm waffling between Megs #21 and Blackfire Wet Diamond on the sealant, I suppose I should determine whether BFWD is one of those "one or two companies" ...

              THanks again.

Yeah, I havent used it, so no idea.

Oh, and as mentioned in your other thread, Ult. Wax is the upgraded version of #21, so probably wouldnt want to use #21, unless you needed the bulk size.
