  • [Question] Random Orbitary machine can use W7000 or DA Microfiber Cutting Disc?

    Hi all,

I have a Bosch Gex-125 Ae model which is random orbitary type, can i use pad as below,
(1)W7000 (soft buff foam cutting pad)
    (2) DA Microfiber Cutting Disc
and apply Ultimate Compound or D300 correction compound?

Due to I use normal foam pad with ultimate compound cannot clear the swirlx on the Volkswagen golf, so I plan use more professional pad and detailers product to clean it on.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

While you can, in theory at least, use any pad that uses a hook & loop attachment system with this tool, there are some potential issues here.

First off, the backing plate on this tool is 5" so you should stay away from our W7000/8000/9000 pads because they are 8" pads and therefore too large for this backing plate. You should also avoid our Soft Buff 2.0 pads (W7207,8207,9207) because they are also too large. The DA microfiber discs really are your best fit for this tool.

But there is a larger problem than any pad or liquid you might use, and that's the power of this tool. It only has a 250 watt motor, and the throw is only 2.5mm. In combination that means the tool has very, very limited power for defect removal when polishing paint. When you couple that lack of power with VW paint, which quite often is on the hard side, it's no wonder you're struggling to remove defects.

      Hi Mr. Stoops,

Really appreciate your pretty much feedback.
Is that a paint will be a big stopped for this machine?

Let's I use some sample, so far I did use this machine and normal pad with Ultimate Compound and apply into Honda City 2007 and Civic 2006, those swirl or holograms can remove easily.

But for VW Golf 2011 & Merc E200 2012, it really hard to get the result with the above scenario. What is the different of the paint? Is that because Japan car and Europe car are using different type of quality of paint?

By the way, what is the best specification of machine to remove the swirl? I still not prefer rotary machine because I worry hard to control and will burn out my body pain.

      Thanks your advice

All paints are different. In your example above, you are pretty much at opposite ends of the spectrum (generally speaking). Honda paint is renowned for being soft, or easy to correct, whilst VW paint is known to be hard, or difficult to correct. Hence why you can remove swirls from one and not the other.

There are a number of good DA's out there, one being the Meguiars G110 V2 (or G220 V2 depending on the voltage in your part of the world).

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

          Hi Davey,

          Thanks your fast feedback.

Well, seem like DA machine is the best choice to clear out the VW and Merc vehicle.
Actually I'm from Malaysia, Penang Island. I would like to buy a kits for those equipment, so which model no./series no. is suitable for me?

          Thanks

Search for the Meguiars G220 or G220v2 or the Griots Garage 6 (GG6).

So far, I found from the site did not selling G220V2, most of them are selling G110V2. Did anyone know where to get the machine G220V2?

                    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure amazon.uk have them. Some other UK based detailing supply stores may have them too...

Hi, ya the UK site amazon have it, but the conversion to MYR really a big gap compare to US. Did you know where can get the US dollar currency in G220V2 version?

Unfortunately, because the voltage in the US is 110v, I think you'll find it will be difficult, if not impossible to find a G220 from a US based supplier.

The other thing you could do (although it's a bit more of a hassle) is buy a G110v2 and also a transformer which will convert your 220 volts into 110 volts, allowing you to safely run the machine.

hi, thanks your suggestion. But additional converter will cause inconvenient during detailing time. Maybe I get it from Malaysia dealer and see.
