Question on #20

I've had this bottle of #20 for a little over a year now. The last couple of times I've used it there seems to be no beading at all after applied. The surface is always super slick and the shine is awesome, but if it rains, there is no beading what so ever. It looks like I never put any wax on.
I thought maybe the water sheets off with #20, but it doesn't look like it.
Maybe it's just a bad bottle of product.
Any thoughts would be great.

Quick questions,

What are you applying it to?

Do you shake it up really well before applying it?

Is the surface you're applying it to in good to excellent condition? If not, perhaps it needs to be clayed and then have a paint cleaner applied to it like ScratchX?

Besides that, M20 typically beads water really well. Has the product ever froze? After shaking it up, does it have a uniform, look in its consistency?

The last intance this happenned was on some summer rims that I was prepping to put back on the car.
I clayed/cleaned/polished before the 20 was applied.
I don't think the product has ever been frozen - at least not while I've had it.
Everything seems great till water gets on the applied surface, and then nothing.
It's very odd.

Hi Simon,

I have used #20 for close to 17 years and what you describe is very odd. When it rains, #20 will bead. When you wash it, the water will sheet.

What polish are you using to clean the paint? What carwash soap are you using? How are you applying and removing the product?


If you are applying it to wheels, how are you cleaning the wheels?
Are the wheels clear coated?

Could be the heat generated by braking causing the wax to dissipate faster than it would on a car finish. This is why it's hard to create a wheel wax that lasts very long.

This is also why I asked you in my first question above,

"What are you applying it to?"

Try that same bottle of wax on your fender or hood, after you have clayed, cleaned and polished the hood, (If it's not in excellent condition to start with), and then see if it beads water.

I'll give that a try this weekend.
I'm was applying to painted/clear coated wheels that were clayed and polished with Deep Crystal System #2. All done by hand. I let the #20 stand for around 15 min. then it just wiped right off. Like I said before - it went on the came off as usual. Just the result was odd.
