  • Prescription for 09 GM Blade Silver

I just purchased a 09 Vette ( Blade Silver) I need to clay it after really checking the paint. I will use #34 for that .

As far as wax sealant goes ... whats your thoughts ? This is a weekend car / garage queen . I know I can't get the depth pout of the silver , but looking for a clear dripping wet look. I will do the up front prep work ( clay bar) but need to know if I should do 20 or prep with something else first.

Also would like a QD suggestion . I am to understand that UQD is the same as M135 (as I read in another post) and I have 34 , but what would be a good pick. LT?

I was told of an OPT prescription on another board and not thrilled the way it look at all. Also the area I did do has next to no slickness to it like the little patch of M20 I did . It's night and day .

    Thanks
    MJ

For your car to look dripping wet, you need to prep the surface and remove as much surface defects as possible. You are already planning on claying the vehicle. I will add a cleaner and polish to bring the most out of your ride. So it's good to
    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Clean - Ultimate Compound
    4. Polish - Ultimate Polish
    5. Wax - NXT 2.0

Are you going to use a D/A polisher or do everything by hand?

I found NXT 2.0 to work best on silver paints.

I would be using a DA polisher.

We're with Marc on this. Unless your evaluation of the paint shows it to be completely free of any swirls or other fine below surface defects, you don't really want to skip the step that remedies those issues. Claying is great for removing above surface contaminants, but for maximum gloss you want to remove those fine swirls, etc and even go with a good finishing polish like Ultimate Polish or even M205 before waxing. Marc likes NXT Tech Wax 2.0 but it's really a very personal choice. You and he may see things differently so it's kind of hard to say what's the "best" in terms of appearance. And let's face it, for most garage queens/weekend toys it's appearance that trumps durability. Ultimate Wax in paste form is really hard to beat, in my eyes.

OK , on my trunk I did a liquid NXT 2.0 . I went to auto store today and the had no paste wax so I got liquid.

I used Ult Polish ( very nice stuff ) on the whole trunk and had it sectioned of in 2 panels . Then I did half in ULW and the other half in liquid NXT 2.0. They both look excellent but would give the nod to the NXT for wet appearance by a slight margin .

Now for the $20,000 question ..... I have UPW also but did not test it . Will it make much of a difference ? I don't mind working with paste waxes at all (kind of find it therapeutic)

The maint. will be with UQD and UQW and cleaning a little with M35 for dust and such. Will the UQD/UQW play well with the NXT ?

One quick question about the the 2 products. Both have the hydrophobic technology. Both are synthetics , so whats the difference between the 2 ? Is ULT going to replace NXT since they seem like the same product. Just trying to educate myself.

Wish I could get it to work this well on my black Tahoe . It shows so many streaks. Anyway another issue for another time .

Oh one more thing , i know how important a prep is but this paint does not even have a mar in it. I know it's not covered up from the dealer as I told them not to touch it when they got it in. It is a one owner trade for another Vette , local guy.

              The car sure is fun.......

Ult. Wax is kind of the improved Nxt 2.0. Better durability, and they apply a bit different.

And yes, the UQD/UQW will work well with Nxt wax.
