    Meguiar's #16 Paste Wax

    I'm a big fan of this product. I recently stocked up on my fourth can...so I should be good for quite awhile!

    Out of curiousity, I was wondering whether this product is mostly carnauba or some type of polymer? It provides durable protection which seems almost like "armor" on the finish of my black vehicle. The product description states that it contains "exotic" waxes, but I find this somewhat confusing. I usually associate anything "exotic" with not being able to provide such rock-hard durability.

    Could someone please provide some further description on what #16 is made of?

    It's an exotic blend of waxes!

    Actually, I can all but assure you that there is absolutely no polymer protectants in this product. It's a very old product that has been around for nearly 20 years I believe...

    Like you, I *LOVE* the look of #16 on black! It's pretty hard to beat.

      From my understanding, it has been around since the 1950's.

        You are correct... 1950's. My mistake.

        As for the 'exotic blend', I made my response as a 'tounge in cheek' type of statement and it was simply meant as a bit of a joke. I, for one, sincerely don't know what that blend may consist of however; it certainly contains carnauba.

        Further, Meguiar's has long since held the composition of most of their products very close to their chest and considered them to be proprietary blends of ingredients. I know you're not looking for a recipe on how to make your own but, I sincerely doubt that the information that you're seeking is public knowledge.

          So being that this is going away in the USA, what is the shelf life on it incase I want to pick up a few cans. How long, how many years can it sit on the shelf before it expires.

            I have contacted various retailers/manufacturers on the issue of the shelf life of paste wax. The consensus is that most paste waxes will last many, many years (almost indefinitely) if cared for properly. This means keeping them away from temperature extremes, such as freezing temps in the winter or extreme heat in the summer. The best thing to do is leave your paste wax in a climate-controlled environment. I leave mine in a cupboard, and I have had no problems at all concerning product quality. Some waxes I have are at least five to six years old, and they still perform just as well as the day that I bought them.

            I recently stocked up on four cans of #16, so I expect to have enough wax for quite awhile. Be sure to act quickly on getting any cans of #16 you can find, as the supplies are dwindling at a fast rate.

              I have no idea what the composition of #16 is but I know it is a very durable carnauba and I really love the look. Even on white paint it has a terrific glow.

              I took advantage of the Autogeek special and ordered two cans, giving me a total of 3.5 on hand. I keep mine in my laundry room so they aren't exposed to extreme temperatures. My understanding is they will be good for the next several years.

                The glow of #16, especially while the sun is setting, cannot be beat!
