I'm asking this question more out of curiosity than anything. I've tried doing some searches to no avail. I'm pretty content with my arsenal as it is but I'm wondering why I don't see or hear about people using the M1, M2 or M4. What are there benefits and drawbacks? Is it because M105/205 have taken over as favorites? Again, just more curious than anything. Thanks.

Re: M1, m2 & m4???
They are older products, using diminishing abrasives, designed with single stage paints in mind (of course they'd work on modern CC as well).
Once non-diminishing products became available (super micro abrasive technology - SMAT) many detailers took advantage of them, especially that they work/ finish much better on today's modern clear coats.

Paint technology has advanced greatly since those products were introduced, so we've advanced the technology of our compounds, cleaners and polishes to keep up. While still excellent products, for the enthusiast caring for his own vehicles with modern paint systems, there are better choices in our lineup.Michael Stoops

Re: M1, m2 & m4???
Thanks Mike for chiming in. I was hoping you were going to answer. I'm still using 83/80 along with 205/105. The only reason I'm still using 83/80 is because I still have some from a while ago and I don't want to throw it out. Once it's gone, I'll be getting more of 105/205 as I'm getting low along with some UC. But comparing the two, there's no doubt I like the SMAT products better. Just don't like the dusting.

Another thumbs up for UC!
I can't explain it, but UC seems to be as good a product as 105...and it sure is a lot more friendly to work with.
I'm talking working with a DA not a rotary, in that case 105 is still the champ.
My $.02

Ultimate compound is very under estimated.. A lot of people think it's a sub par product because it's a consumer item. But this is not the case. UC is a very potent compound that finishes really well. Check out my results when I used it the first time: Detailed-1997-Honda-Accord-White2011 Car Crazy Showcase SEMA Team

It looks like this thread has turned into more of a "praise for UC thread."
