  • What Speed...?

Do you run your Megs Microfiber Cutting discs at on the da?

I just completed a full cut and buff on an 08 Vette and totally ruined 4 5" mf cutting discs with my PCXP on speed 5.

Trashing $40 worth of pads really lowers the bottom line...

D300 speed 5 and D301 speed4,,,How old are the pads? Original pads had some issues coming unglued. Get hold of Megs service dept tomorrow and I am sure they will make it right if pads were at fault.

The pads were brand new, never used before.

Its whatever bp came with my G110v2. Do you think that would matter?

            Re: What Speed...?

            Garry,

The backing plate matters a lot for the Meguiar's MF discs.

So you're using the BP that came with the g110v2 (W68DA I'm assuming) with your 5" MF pads? That doesn't make sense because that BP is larger than 6". The correct BP for the 5" MF discs is the W67DA as Mark mentioned.

The target speeds for the MF system is:
            Cutting Disc/Correction Compound: 4800OPM (speed 4 on G110v2)
            Finishing Disc/Finishing Wax: 3800OPM (speed 3 on G110v2)

Here are some links (no offense please) on how to properly use the MF system:
Using Meguiar's D/A Microfiber Correction System

Here's a good thread about proper OPM speeds for the popular D/A's available:
OPM speed settings for the DA polisher

From that thread, it seems that you need to bump your D300 application speed to 4. Please let us know if this works for you or not.

            Hope this helps!

              Re: What Speed...?

The plate that came with your G110V2 is long loop used by all all pads. For Microfiber System you need short loop W67DA backing plate. If you use wrong plate you may create excessive heat build up which will ruin pad backing.

Backing plate choice is critical with these discs. Virtually everything we've ever written about them includes mention of the W67DA backing plate with the 5" discs. You might want to read through Backing Plates - More Than Just A Way To Stick A Pad To A Buffer for more info on the reasons why backing plates are so important.

I not only have 2 of the W67DA backing plates sitting at my shop, but this past Sunday I ordered another G110v2... I am excited to start using the revised microfiber pads. I will keep you all posted and I will definately be doing more Meguiars related videos!
