  • What exactly is M16 ?

I applied a coat today on black and really liked the ease of use and the shine it gave , slickness , ect...

I was reading on the can and it says durable for high temps , and it also says it "contains" carnuba" which leaves me to believe that it is not a pure carnuba wax and that it contains other things that make it so durable and shine so well .

So what is it ? polymer ? synthetic wax or sealant ?

    Just wondering.

    Thank you
    Mike

Yeah, none of them are pure carnuba.

It will be very close between M26 and Gold Class Carnauba Plus. But don't think the carnauba content in and of itself necessarily makes all that much of a difference. Polaris, we've seen you making several references to carnauba content in the last couple of days, even mentioning a "pure carnauba" product. You have to understand what it really means when a company says their product is "pure carnauba" or "100% carnauba" - all they are saying is that of all the wax in the product, 100% of it is carnauba, meaning there are no other actual waxes in the product. Naturally occurring carnauba is hard as a rock. If you had a bottle of 100% pure carnauba you could literally cut away the bottle and have a block of carnauba standing on the shelf, in the exact shape of that bottle. But you could never actually use it on your car. Naturally occurring carnauba must go through at least some refining steps and even then be mixed with some sort of solvent to make it useable in a car wax application. The refining process can even go so far as to create what's known as ivory carnauba, and this is often found in very expensive waxes. But even then, even in those very expensive waxes, the actual amount of carnauba will vary, and other ingredients can and will play just as important a role in adding gloss, depth, darkness, etc to a paint. There is no one single ingredient that will do it all.

Bottom line, whether you like a carnauba product, a fully synthetic product, or a mix of the two, and whether or not you can even see a difference between any of them (some can, some can't), the important thing is that you spend your hard earned money on a product that performs the way you want it to. That can mean how easy it applies, how easy it wipes off, how it looks, how long it lasts and how well it protects. There are always superior and inferior products in any price range, and people have different ideas about what makes a wax good, bad or otherwise. We work in different ways, we see things differently. Which is why on a detailing forum you can ask 20 guys what their favorite wax is and you'll get 20 different answers. But all of them, if they really know what they're talking about, will tell you that no wax on it's own can do for a finish what proper prep work before the wax is even applied will do.

Polaris's post is a quote of something we wrote in another post addressing a similar question.

In a nutshell, there is no product on the market that is "pure carnauba" in the sense of "everything in the can is carnauba wax" since such a product would be, quite literally, as hard as a rock.

M16 is a carnauba wax in the sense that our M26 and Gold Class Carnauba Plus waxes are (or any of our competitors carnauba products, from Dodo Juice to Blackfire to Mother's to Zymol, etc). Each of these products has a proprietary blend of other ingredients, whether some sort of polymer, silicone, etc that enhances the characteristics of the product, with carnauba being only a part of the mix. The actual amount of carnauba will vary among these, but the percentage of carnauba alone is not what makes a good, bad or mediocre wax.

          Thanks Michael .

I really like working with this stuff. It went on and off like a breeze . Great look too on my black truck.

Any suggestion on winter QD or spray wax for maintaining ??

Depends on what you can do.

If all you can do is wash, Ult. Wash and Wax would help.

Ult. Quick Wax would be great after washing, and really helps the life of the wax.
