    You could try it by hand or machine as needed, as long as the water spot is 'gunk' on the surface.

    If it is an etching from something, it wont help.

      Yes, you can, but it may be messier than you like and it might also be overkill. We find quite often that M105, M04 and even Ultimate Compound applied by hand can do wonders for even very old water spots on glass. A lot of people will even use a foam pad on a DA with M105 or UC and just go over their glass when doing the rest of the car. You're certainly not going to remove scratches or pitting this way, but it is highly effective on water spots.
