Currently using 105/205 on my wife's black 2007 Toyota Camry. Using a orange lc pad following with white. The orange pad gets black after using. Is this normal? or am I being too agressive? It looks very good when finished. No swirls to be found anywhere! Please advise. Thanks.

Sounds like your paint is on the softer side and 105 is too aggressive.

What type of defects were you trying to remove?

Just from from what you have stated, you might want to start with something less aggressive next time such as Swirlx or even see if 205 on it's own will give you anything depending on what your trying to accomplish. You may want to even start out with a white pad just to see what happens. A little experimentation on a test spot varying your product/pad combinations as well as technique (pressure and number of passes) should tell you what it needs.

If the pads are turning black, then the paint must be single stage black paint.

You shouldnt really need to use #105 every time.. if you do, then you should be looking at where all the scratches are coming from in a short time.

The Pontiac Vibe (same as a Toyota Matrix) I work on a couple of times a year almost never needs 105, especially after the first time it was cleaned up. The normal process for it is clay, #205 to remove problems, then LSP. This Vibe has the metallic black paint and just POPS after this treatment. It does not transfer onto the pad.
Did the orange pad get black from all panels? If so, Murr is right and it is single stage black - a little unusual these days OR if it came from just certain panels or certain areas on certain panels there has been paint work done and it is responding differently.

The Black paint was just from the lower panels. It didn't turn black from the hood, roof, trunk. It never had any paint work done since we had bought the car brand new. I will try something less agressive. I have Menzerna Final polish I can try with a white, green, or blue pad.

Was it like jet black, or a dirty gray?

It looked more like a dirty gray.

Well.. maybe just really dirty... does it seem to lighten up at all? Did you clay?

apparently, toyota uses single stage paints in todays cars on red/white/blacks that are not pearl/mica/metallic

Yes, still can be in use. But it would be expected from all panels, not one or two.

I toured the Toyota factory in Cambridge, Ontario Tuesday. Tour guide, if he really knew, said at their plant everything is clear coat. Perhaps in 2007 it was different. As agp56 said, a mix of paint types seems unusual. Maybe there was some paint left over and they wanted to use it up rather than waste it.

Maybe at that plant, but we can say for a fact that not ALL Toyotas in those colors are single stage. We've got a regular Thursday Night Open Garage attendee with a 2011 Prius in non metallic black and it most definitely is not single stage - we've worked on it several times, including just last night. Another sometime attendee has a Camry Hybrid, also non metallic black, also clear coated. But Toyota manufactures in many facilities in several countries, just like BMW does, and just as with BMW paint, it's quite possible that Toyota paints vary dramatically from plant to plant.
