  • Am I doing something wrong ??????

Am I doing something wrong with the Final Inspection. As most of you probably know my dealership had to repaint the hood on my new car. To give it a little shine when I got it home after they kinda washed it ( Not up to my standards) I put some FI on the hood. Applied with one microfiber and removed with another. Looked Great. When I woke up this morning after the dew had dried It had kinda a cloudy type haze on it. I could just barely touch it with a microfiber by just wiping over it with only the weight of the microfiber. I didnt want to wipe it off because just from overnight it was covered by all kinds of outdoor particles. Wind kicked up to about 30 last night as a cold front was coming though and I think some trees are starting to pollinate around here. I didnt even want to risk FI on it. This afternoon I sprayed the hood off with water and wiped with a towel and re applied FI just as before. No Sun, Cool surface. When I went and looked tonight I am getting the same haze. Is there a trick to this? And since FI is supposed to be harmless to paint should it be ok to leave the haze until I can wash it off again tomorrow?

    Thanks

Something doesn't sound right. M34 Final Inspection, correctly misted on and then wiped off will leave the surface streak-free, clear and glossy, (assuming the paint is glossy to start with), if you're seeing a problem in the paint, my guess is it's from something that has been done to the paint before you applied the M34. The M34 Final Inspection is merely clearing up the finish in a way that it enables you're eyes to see the problem.

Try applying a Meguiar's pure polish, using a thin coat, and then removing with a clean, soft microfiber polishing cloth. Then inspect. If you still see the problem, then it's in the paint.

Yeah that is what is weird. Like tonight I can see the film in the light, I can take a microfiber like I just did and swipe it across ever so lightly and the film will go away leaving a glossy perfect finish. Could I be applying too much ? I dont think I am but who knows, Also a thought I had was that it could be the paint releasing some of its gases maybe as it cures and it is releasing them to the surface. Just some thoughts

It could be both the things you mentioned.

Are you sure it isn't just moisture on the surface, a paint with good surface tension will have dew accumulate. If you are able to remove it with a mf with no pressure, it sounds very much like dew.

Thanks for the advice like always Mike. I will rinse it tomorrow and not apply any FI and then see what happens
