  • Wheel Brightener

I currently use Consumer All Wheel Cleaner on both my vehicles (Chrysler T&C with painted alloy, Chrysler 300 with chrome). Considering going all Detailer Line because of the bulk gallons. Should I be concerned with using WB on both vehicles or should I just stick with the All Wheel Cleaner? I tend to get three or four washes out of a bottle? Can I dilute beyond the suggested level i.e. 15:1, 20:1 and get decent results? Both of my cars are washed regularly but the T&C really builds up brake dust on the rear wheels.

Yes, WB would be safe for the wheels you have. It is not safe for uncoated aluminum wheels and anodized wheels. WB can be diluted past the recommended 4:1 ratio. I've got a bottle at 10:1 that is good for routine washes. Nasty wheels always get 4:1.

I'm curious as to why the REAR wheels are gathering so much brake dust. The front wheels of any vehicle that is working properly provides most of the braking. That is why the front wheels are always dirtier than the rear. You may have a caliper that is stuck and not allowing the brake pad to come completely off the rotor.

The brake dust on the rear puzzled me too. It is uniform on both sides of the van. Took it in, still under warranty, and dealer found nothing wrong. Must have a different brake bias or something on the van. It drives and stops fine, just always heavy brake dust in the back.

As does my Camry- the bias is being set more to the rear on newer electronic braking systems.

Before you go the WB route, one question - do you find that you need the All Wheel Cleaner to clean up that brake dust? I find that regular car wash solution works just fine as long as the car is washed regularly, which you say you do. As the party line around here goes, always use the least aggressive method...
