Is C-2000 clay any better than consumer line products, such as Meguiar's Smooth Surface and Mothers California Gold?

Like Murr said, it has a bit more cut to it, but isn't so strong that it will marr your paint.
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
Remove swirls my friends.Comment
