For durabilty you need a good sealant -- NXT or #20. # 16 is a very good carnauba wax. Some folks think that a carnauba wax gives a deep wet look. Some folks don't. I really can't tell the difference on my black Hemi. But because of all of the hype, I just bought one of the last two cans of #16 that my dealer had in stock for "old times" sake. It was my "wax of choice" in the 70's and 80's.

Most folks on this forum are appying NXT -- two applications 12 hours apart and then *maybe* topping it with a pure wax like #16. I do not top NXT with a carnauba. I'm satsified with the results of two applications. Don't ask me why I just bought a can of #16. Darned if I have a good reason other than to have it if I want to try it again. A can of the stuff lasts forever.

I'd not recommend #20 over NXT as it is another sealant not a pure wax.

That is something only you can answer. I'd suggest you apply two coats of NXT a day apart then wait another day and apply #16 to half of your hood and see if you like or even notice the difference. To my eyes NXT is a lot like #16 in appearance. You might also want to experiment with #26 over NXT. I think the look of #26 is warmer and gives a glow to the shine especially nice on dark colors. As to durability, I get 3 months out of NXT and get about the same out of #16. #26 used to yield me around 2 months.

              Thanks m8

Looking at the forum #16 gets a good write up for durability.

NXT is good but i find it scratches easy.

I have used NXT , have not topped NXT. If I were to use the products you mention I would do the following to find which I like the most. I am assuming you have clean and prepped or a new/near new surface which you working on. I would divide a panel on the vehicle and apply #20 x2, x2 for all the above for even coverage and appearance. Another place on the panel apply #20 x2 with NXT x2 on top. Yet another place on the panel, apply the same as prior, but this time top with #16. Another option is to try #7 or #81 or DC 2 under each of the above sections, so you would end up with 8 different sections to look at. See which one of the sections gives you the appearance you seeking.

Panel sections. Each coat a day apart:
                1. #20 x2
                2. NXT x2
                3. #16 x2
                4. #20 x2, NXT x2
                5. #20 x2, NXT x2, #16 x2
                6. #20 x2 with base of one of the following DC 2, #7 or #81.
                7. #20 x2, NXT x2 with base of one of the following DC 2, #7 or #81.
                8. #20 x2, NXT x2, #16 x2 with base of one of the following DC 2, #7 or #81.

Each of the combos’ should/will provided a slight difference on appearance, which is very subjective. Each of the combos will provide a set of pros and cons, but which one is better is a matter of personal preference. This is probably why Meguiar’s makes so many different products.

                tguil,
I just bought a tin of #16 just to have. I also bought a bottle of #26 liquid because it was on close out.

                  I'm 62. Should I include the #16 that I don't use in my will?

I topped my ride in early October before winter with two coats of NXT and topped with a coat of #16 and its still going strong, car is not garaged on top of that.

                        Hey,

It more or less comes down to personal preference. Topping NXT with #16 gives a little more reflective shine whereas the NXT will add a richness and depth to the paint. I like the combo look on lighter colors. But on dark colors, I prefer NXT by itself.
