  • Is the New M/F System for Pros only?

Is the new Microfiber System pretty much for the pro detailers? It looks & sounds pretty easy to use, but I don't want to get in over my head.

I have little DA experience, having done everything by hand for years. I knew the DA was the way to go, but was afraid I might do some damage, so I lived with less than perfect results. I had Dave @ Innovative 714 detail my Corvette, and it looked pretty easy. So after attending a couple Saturday Meguiars classes, I bought a G110v2 with various pads, polishes, sealants etc. I've done my '08 Silverado & my '03 Vette, which came out excellent, although there are still some swirl marks. I'm not really satisfied with the results on my '06 Harley, but that was done by hand, and I can't wait to re-do it (on low speed, and take my time!) with the 4" pad setup I just bought. Then I will attack the g/f's '09 Mercedes. I'm very impressed with how easy it is to do, and the help & support from Meg's & this forum is incredible!

Should I give the M/F system a try?

I am sure Meguiars had the pro detailer as it's number one target when it was created but it is being sold though many "enthusiast" auto detailing web sites so I would answer your question with a no.

The MF system is easy to use but it is like anything. If you don't use it properly for what it was intended then you may get "over your head" real quick.

I recommend you go for it. Start off with the starter kit and have fun!

I'm leaning towards giving it a try. I figure if I follow the instructions and keep the pad clean....then start off slow and easy until I get used to it.

Good idea. Keep in mind if you did mess up and use the products incorrectly....... about the worst thing that would happen is that you'd haze the paint up. Hazy paint would be an easy fix.

You can trust Joe on this. He spent many hours testing and improving this System.

Imagine increased correction ability of your safe DA polisher to make your defect removal faster, more effective and leaving your vehicle in show car shape. All of these with just a 2-step DA Microfiber Correction System.

Short learning time, no experimenting with many different products, 1 microfiber pad can last you through entire buffing process and as Joe said in the worst case scenario you may experience some hazing of paint surface which is easy to restore to gloss with D301 Finishing Wax.

You could also use just step 2 of the System alone if your car doesn't have any major problems or if your paint is soft.

Additionally microfiber pads can be used with all other products. M105, M205, UC they all work great with them.

          Convinced already?

Bob, since you've taken a couple of our Saturday Classes you should try to make it to a Thursday Night Open Garage once they start up again in a few weeks - March 17 to be precise. We can show you the ins and outs of the new DA Microfiber System and let you get a feel for it.

If you read through this intro to the system you'll see that it's very straight forward. While cleaning the pads regularly is critical, it's very fast and easy to do with just a brush - you don't have to have compressed air. With it, a new user - or even a more experienced D/A user who has just been struggling to get the most out of the tool - can easily remove some pretty severe defects while keeping the safety factor of the D/A. If you aren't getting involved in projects that require wet sanding (and in some cases even if you are, if you've read some of the early reviews of the system) and don't need a rotary, or are just plain put off by buying another tool that you may not use, then this system is fantastic.

Re: Is the New M/F System for Pros only?

I was looking forward to trying the MF discs with D300...no taping, no splatter, no drying out, no misting and easy to wipe off. So just to test the products out I only purchased the MF cutting pads and DA D300 compound, I felt I had plenty of super fine polishes, sealants and waxes that I could finish with instead of trying the D301 cleaner/wax at this time.

IMHO M105 does a wonderful job of paint correction but it can be a bit difficult to use. It dries quickly and needs misting with H2O to increase the working time. M105 can splatter and those little dots be a pain to remove and IMHO it's a little stubborn to remove and requires IPA to completely clean it off.

Well here is a true test. A friend came over that had never used a DA buffer before. With just a few minutes of DA training (pressure, OPM speed, arm speed, overlap, keep pad flat etc.), a Megs MF Cutting disc, DA MF compound and a PC7424xp he was turning out a clear, deep, rich paint finish IMHO that was worthy of a professional detailer. OK, I tried it on HIS car. I don't try new test products on MY car! (GRIN)

No taping, no splatter and it wiped off like a fine buttery wax. I don't have an air compressor but we used a dry "Bug Sponge" and the on-the-fly method. It cleaned and removed the spent paint and product and fluffed and lifted the MF disc fibers. It worked great!

We finished up with Menz PO85 and Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant and it came out excellent!
