I'm a long time reader and lurker and haven't ever posted on MOL (well once!), but I thought I would share some quick thoughts on the D/A Microfiber Pads.
First some background... I'm not in the detailing biz, but have had a mild interest in detailing for the last 5 years. I've used both a D/A and a rotary. I've really only worked on my own cars (an 03 Accord, an 03 CTS and a 2010 Ford Flex) so I don't have tons of experience.
I just so happen to be at the right place at the right time 2 weeks ago (the shipping truck was pulling in) and was able to pick up the Microfiber Pads at a retail location. Apparently, there was some mix up with the Meguiar’s shipping department since the retail location got the pads early (but not the liquids). As a result, I got to try the pads that evening at home on my 03 Accord. FYI, there could have been changes to the pads themselves or the packaging since I got these 2 weeks ago.
Since there have been many other excellent reviews here, I’m just going to give a couple of observations and thoughts about the pads themselves. Bear in mind that I only have about 3 hours of use with these pads. Looking at the pads, the foam and the thickness are different between the cutting and finishing pads. The microfiber itself looks to be about the same on both pads. If the material is different, it’s difficult to tell. Since I didn’t have the liquids to go with the pads, I decided to try out the 5” cutting pad with M105. I’ve been using M105 as my go to product for the last couple of years so I’m familiar with it. This combination yielded some great results and easily corrected the same type of defects you would expect to correct with M105 and a Surbuf pad. But it was the differences that made this experience unique. Most importantly, the Meguiar’s Microfiber Cutting Pad was very dependent on the amount of pressure that was being applied and more pressure equaled more correcting ability. Where with the Surbuf’s I’ve found that light pressure is the only way to go with only one level of cutting. I didn’t try it, but I think it might be possible to apply very light pressure and achieve a great finish with the Microfiber Cutting Pad. The other difference from the Surbuf pads are no shreds of pad material all over your car! I used 1 Microfiber Cutting Pad during my 3 hours of use and the pad held up perfectly. I also threw it in the washing machine with my LC foam pads and pad came out just fine.
Sorry I don’t have any pics of the car itself, but I figured the pads themselves would be more interesting at this point.
