  • Megs Ultimate wipe detailing cloth with FRAYED HARD EDGES....uggghhh

Just received some additional goodies yesterday from Autogeek and upon inspection was disappointed ....I see my trio of Ultimate Wipes to have frayed sharp edges along the sides! GRRRRR
Additionally upon looking at them in my bedroom and holding them to the cieling i can see checkers of light through them?!??!?!?! is this a product flaw? one would think that the weave should be thick and tight .... NOW for the real burner....the top and bottom have what i can describe as hemmed edges and the sides look chopped with little hard forks running along the sides!! these will definitely not touch my paint!! WAIT .... didnt i buy these as they were raved as the premiere wipe for external paint/wax/polish removal .... uugghhhhh more shipping cost back to Megs for new ones .... certainly dont want to trim them as after one wash they surely would unravel and did I mention they are all different sizes by a quarter to a half inch LOL!
Could this be a flaw in the manufacturing process?
BTW Autogeek they threw in two Merry Xmas silkscreened white MFs that look absolutely amazing ... plusher, denser than the Ultimate Wipe - just my 2 cents.
looks like i just added three rim tires to my arsenal....

Ultimate Wipes have a totally different weave than most other microfiber towels, so the fact that you can see light through them is normal, I believe. The hard plastic edges do not sound right, though.

Here are two pictures from Autogeek showing close up pictures of the Ultimate Wipe compared to their Arctic white microfibers. Ultimate wipe on top, Arctic White on bottom. You can clearly see the Ultimate Wipes different weave pattern that I referred to.

OK Fred, this is your third post here on MOL about this apparent issue with these towels. Have you called Customer Care to ask for replacements? We'd be happy to do so.

In fact, let's even bypass that whole process - shoot me your full name and address via PM and I'll personally see to it that replacements are sent to you.

What you're describing does sound very unusual, however, so we would like to get at least one of these back in order to inspect it. A small padded envelope and less than a buck in postage should cover it, and I'll even throw in an extra towel to compensate you for that.

Thanks Mike. I will send em off to you so you can investigate.
Brian - your pictures depict exactly what i was referring to ..... as you can see on the top pic the top UWipe has the exact frayed edges I am referring to and as you can see the pattern does seem to be not as tightly woven as the bottom pic.
Did those edges not catch your attention? oh wait, you got that pic from AG.
Nonetheless has anyone else seen those types of frayed edges on their towels?

Well first Thanks Megs for the replacement towels.
Today I learned that these towels are produced this way per Mike Stoops.... I was hoping to be the first to alert the team of what I suspected a production flaw but looks like IT IS WHAT IT IS and this is the way they are.
Also learned that although they do have hemmed edges along the top and bottom the sides that are laser/hot wired cut are part of the actual process and it's common to get hard edges with the little forks protruding from them.
My initial fear was that I would not let them touch paint as for a fear of having them marr the paint so I tried it... I folded them towel put it in my hand and did a quick buff .... Guess what? It marred the hood of my truck! Tried the CD test and fail...
All in all a little disappointed that the ULTIMATE wipe would not be hemmed all the way around but yet the 25 pack from Costco for $11 does?

Fred, please be really careful what information you attribute to either myself or Brian Hann. What we said is that the images of the towels you sent show what appear to be a normal finish on the towel. We did not state that the towels are laser cut, or hot wire cut. In fact, it has just been confirmed to me by Jason Rose that they are most definitely NOT trimmed that way, so there should not be any "melting" of the edges, creating a hard finish.

Again, I'm looking forward to seeing the towel you're sending back.

My apologies Mike as I was only trying to recant what was said and had no intention of twisting anything around...
Could you elaborate a little more on what process Megs uses to trim the edges of the UWipes. Don't know if you can post the pics I sent you but the look identical to the top picture contained here in with the little prongs protruding and if you zoom in you can clearly see that they appear hardened and rather acute versus being soft and finished.
Anxious to hear the official response from Meguiars as to there process for finishing there edges on these towels.
BTW - towel is in the mail. Thanks MS
