  • Confused about Backing Plates

So I bought the Softbuff Backplate for my Dewalt.

    ROTARY BACKING PLATE
    Item Number: W68 5.75 in

But it has a foam piece in between the top piece and velcro pad.
It seems to have a lot of cushion for the...pressure...mmmm

It doesn't work well with a Softbuff 2.0 Burgundy pad, it just smooshes the backing plate.

What exactly is this particular backing plate for? maybe the Yellow or Black Softbuff 2.0 pads?
Obviously i should use this backing plate for the Softbuff 2.0 Burgundy pad

    Re: Confused about Backing Plates

The W68 rotary backing plate (W68DA for the G110v2 and other dual action polishers) is specifically designed for use with all three Soft Buff 2.0 pads and the flexible cushioning is there for a reason. It gives ample support across the width of the pad while still be able to conform to curved panels and maintain that support/pressure. Then ensures more uniform cut without digging into the back of the pad.

The W64 backing plate is better suited for our original 6" Soft Buff Pads while the larger W65 is for the 8" Soft Buff pads or the W4000 wool pad. When a bit more cushioning is needed our W66 backing plate from the So1o line offers just that. It fits the Soft Buff 2.0 pads perfectly, plus both wool and foam pads from the So1o line itself. For working on fresh paint it provides that slightly more delicate touch to the whole process.

If you're using our Soft Buff 2.0 pads though (cutting, polishing and finishing), definitely stick with the W68 backing plate that you have now.

      OK cool!
Very good to know. Thank You for the Info. I'll stick with the backing plate and work on my technique with the pads.
      Thanks Mike!
