  • Detail prepping for the harsh weather!!!

Saturday began the process, I used Meguiars Professional Heavy Cut Compound, followed by 1 coat of #7 polish. I let the polish cure for 24 hours, and now I'm curious to either if i should throw another coat on, or should I go ahead and begin with the wax? I have #26, Gold Class, and NXT Tech Wax.. I was wondering if I could/should put #26, GC, then NXT. Or some kind of combination. What do you all think and what process should I do it in?

It is currently raining outside, cars in the garage, and has been since saturday. Temperature is about 71. Good time to do it? I want to start now so I can finish today so quick replys would be greatly appreciated!!

Polish doesn't really need to cure like a wax, and 1 coat should coat should be fine. Only real old dried out paint may need more.

You can mix and match waxes however you like. Nxt is best protecting, so for winter, more of that would seem best.

Nxt takes a bit longer to dry though, esp if damp, so just take that into account.

Re: Detail prepping for the harsh weather!!!

I am getting ready to prep for winter very soon.

I am going to apply several coats of NXT 2.0 on each vehicle in my household. I don't know how much wax can effectively bond to the surface, but by using several coats I should achieve the maximum.

After rereading your original post, I would say you need to follow up with a less aggressive product like Swirlx or 205. Isn't there any marring from M04 Heavy Cut Compound?

Thanks for the responses. I think I will lay two coats of #26, and then maybe 1 of GC (give it the extra boost, my car is black) and 1/2 of NXT (love the beading)

Black is the hell color to look good!

Coopers, I used Swirl X, completely forgot I did that! After I used the rotary I had to get rid of those small swirls, but some are still there, I'm hoping the wax will somewhat diminish them.

I came upon this post while reading around, he used NXT then #26.

I will take some once I am done with the wax! (If I remember )

M16 or Collinite 476s are the only LSP's I use on my own and my customers vehicle in preparation for winter. You should definitely look into them if you don't already own/love them. They both remain slick and bead water like no other, even after a harsh/icy/salty winter.

I was thinking of getting soem 476s but I want to see how NXT 2.0 will hold up against the harsh winters.

Re: Detail prepping for the harsh weather!!!

I'll have to try one of those next time, I just finished a thin coat NXT 2.0, and I just applied a thin coat #26 yellow wax, and I'm allowing that to haze now, I'm thinking of also applying a coat of GC. Any input regarding that? Or no difference? I want to put the GC so it can make the wax last longer.

Also about how long until I apply another coat of wax (If all goes well I hope I don't have to Clay/Compound/Swirl/Polish for a while)

                  Thanks

I think this is a good idea. Several times I've done some experimenting and done 1/2 the hood with one product and the other half with something else.

Meguiar's makes some great products but I think NXT 2.0 or Collinite 845 will far outlast the tried and trued #26. Don't get me wrong, #26 is a great wax and I really like it during the summer months but for winters here in Mass I'll stick with the other two.

Nxt Tech Wax Version 1.0 lasts though a Wyoming winter on my F250 with no problems. Truck prepped with #80 and two coats of Tech Wax. Anymore is a complete waste of time, effort and money. Detailed in October and not washed until late March. When I gave it a real wash in April, it looked like I detailed it a week ago.

Don't tell anybody, but this year it's going to be #80 followed by two coats of brother Frank Meguair's Finish Kare 1000P Hi Temp Synthetic Paste Wax. It's supposed to be one of the most durable products on the market.
