  • Need help choosing the best combo - M105 followers

    Hi!
I have earlier used M85 (when needed) followed by M83, M80 and Tech Wax 2.0.

Now I buyed M105 (which is a superb magic product!). Im wondering using M205 instead of M83 and M80 after M105. Is that a good idea? To big jump to go from M105 to M205? Are M205 better than the older M83 and M80? If I use M205 should I go for a pure polish aswell? Eventually which one? Or can M205 be working fine as a last polish followed by Tech Wax 2.0 (or Syntetic Sealant 2.0)?

So, could this be the ultimate combo:

    M105 - M205 - M7 - Tech Wax 2.0 ? Or is M7 overkill?

    Im using a Flex DA.

Lots of questions here. Hope you can help me out.

    Thanks in advance
    Regards Zaronn

#105 may finish out fine on its own, and not need the #205. Or you may need the #205 to follow it. They will work great together in most situations.

#205 is a cleaner/polish, so it has some oils. On a black car, or show car, you may see a difference with #7. On white, probably not.

I agree. The 105/205 combo is outstanding. I would only use the #7 if the car was dark. Never really noticed a big difference on lighter colors.

don't want to hijack thread but quick question on m105.

will it, with a porter cable take out holograms or is a rotary needed and wool pad?

Generally speaking, a rotary with a wool pad is what put the holograms there in the first place. M205 is designed to remove holograms when used on a foam pad either via rotary or D/A. M105 on a D/A will certainly remove holograms, but it's probably more aggressive than you need for that step. Even with a D/A, try M205 on a polishing pad or finishing pad first.

              Thanks.

So if I'm using the old pads that's okay still?

And I'll go with either 8007 or 9007.

Try 205 first and then if that doesn't work 105 is the way I want to?

Do I have to use the new 2.0 pads to get the results I want with the 105 and 205 in this case?

Cameraman, you certainly can use the pads you already have, not a problem.

Honestly, if M205 isn't cutting it (no pun intended ) you should step up to Ultimate Compound. It's just so much easier to use on a D/A and it still gives awesome results.

                  So,

                  Ultimate Compound
                  205
                  105

if those are the three i want to try tackling the job with in order I should go at it.

                  All with 8006 pads?

So if a wool pad puts in the holograms, m105 with the DA will certainly take them out and take out swirls at the same time?

Can you ever get a straight to wax finish with the rotary or do you always have to follow up with a DA?

In order of aggressiveness with these three, from least to most, it's:

                    M205
                    Ultimate Compound
                    M105

Each of these can be used with a W8207 polishing pad via D/A to remove holograms, swirls, fine scratches, etching, etc. Unless you have pretty soft paint though, or just very mild defects, M205 may prove to be not aggressive enough. You can also use M205 on a finishing pad as a final polish step and/or to add clarity to the finish. It offers a crazy long buffing cycle (work time, play time, whatever you like to call it) and super easy wipe off. It is just awesome stuff.

Oh, it sure will. Ultimate Compound should too. Heck, M205 alone should pull out the light stuff, so as a follow up to just rotary work it's usually all that's needed.

Yes, you certainly can, but this is where the fine skills come into play. A lot of people rush the process or try to take shortcuts and you really need to spend time finessing the finish to do it. M205 on a finishing pad, 900 - 1200 rpm (depending on how the paint responds) just the weight of the machine and the pad kept very flat to the paint, plus slow motions over the paint are a good starting point (!) That's where the skill and finesse come in!

Excellent I've been out of the loop for a while. This thread helped a lot. I will put an order for W8007 and #105 .
