  • Whats in the middle?

For use on a D/A, what professional/mirror glaze product would fall between the consumer line of Ultimate Compound and M105?

    Thanks!

    Re: Whats in the middle?

If you were to look up a chart comparing the aggresiveness of the new 2010 consumer and mirro glaze products you would see that M105 and Ultimate Compund are the most aggressive prodicts in each of their product lines. UC is the most aggressive consumer product while M105 is the most aggressive professional product. There is no product truly between those two products.

Through using the techniques outlines in this thread, it is possible to create a pad-product-pressue entity able to create a system with equivalent cut as something between UC and M105.

      coopers23 said it quite well!

Desmo, what are you working on and what are you trying to accomplish? Is UC not getting you the results you're after?

        Hello and thanks Coopers23!

        Michael,

I guess the first part is that the product should be good for a PC7424 (I don't use a rotary)

The second part is academic; without taking into account other variables (pads, pressure, speed, etc.) what product is the next step LESS agressive than M105. My original question is formed knowing that 105 and UC are kissing cousins, but not knowing the cut value (numeric 1-12) of UC.

For products compatible with the D/A the next step down in aggressiveness from M105 would be Ultimate Compound. There are products in the Mirror Glaze line that would technically fall between M105 and UC but they are not D/A compatible and so won't meet your needs.

There is no cut number given to UC, for a variety of reasons. The cut numbers on the Mirror Glaze products refer to their max value when used to achieve their design goals - in the case of M105 that goal is to pull sanding marks as coarse as 1000 grit when coupled with a wool pad on a rotary buffer. Obviously if you used it by hand it's not going to give the same cut. UC, being designed as a consumer product (regardless of it's heritage) won't have a cut number because it's not always going to be used the same way (hand, orbital or D/A will all be common uses) and quite frankly, the average consumer is either put off by such labels or just plain confused. That isn't their fault, they just haven't been educated to the level of the our typical MOL member - and a bottle label isn't quite the right place to give that full education.
