  • Impressed with M20 durability

    I detailed this 2001 Volvo S80 for the first time on August 22nd, 2009: 2001 Volvo S80 - Engine,interior,and exterior cleanup .

Part of the detail included the application of M20 Polymer Sealant. Just recently I was asked to detail the car again, and I was in fact curious to see how that application of M20 Polymer Sealant was holding up.

I asked the owner about the car and he said it has sat outside 24/7 for the nine years he has owned it. He also uses it as a daily driver, it does have 130,000 miles on it. He also said he has driven i through the touchless car wash a couple times and thats about it.

After washing the wheels, tires, and wheelwells I rinsed down the paint and it actually beaded up quite nicely. It beaded up even nicer after washing it when it came time for the final rinse.

    Heres a few pictures:

Obviously there is still some protection on the paint but it could definitly benefit from another claying, cleaning, and a fresh coat of wax.

Heres the latest writeup: 2001 Volvo S80

Wow, that is impressive. I have found that being outside kills the wax, and the Touchless car washes often have very powerful cleaners.

Looks like m20 is a winner!
    Thanks for sharing.

Starting to wonder if M20 may outlast NXT or M21....

Could it be the spray wax on the car that a lot of car washes use??

          I love M20, it's my go to LSP on a customer's car!

Personally I'd still put M21/NXT over M20 in durability but I love how quickly M20 dries.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
          Remove swirls my friends.

That is pretty amazing. For as much as it is exposed to the elements.

              Maybe,

but it seems that some of the M20 is still there.

I had posted a vehicle with a similar beading pattern (scattered irregular blobs) in a poll and the majority felt the LSP was essentially gone. This just only shows why people's view of durability varies so widely.

M20 is my favorite hands down. Good durability and no streaking on the darker vehicles all year round.

+1 Did both my cars back in Oct. M20 is still beading even after lots of snow/salt.
