    Express Wax cold day drying times....

    Hey Guys ...
    First time poster but recent purchaser of MANY prodcuts in anticipation of a new gig once it warms up some....
    products in my arsenal include
    105
    205
    151
    Express Wax
    APC+
    26
    NXT 2.0
    HD
    WBD
    Meg110V2

    right now in S.TX we are sitting with days at about 50 degrees for the low's in the 40's ..
    I have done a few jobs in November whenItemps where about 60 with full son and had great results using all the products but today was about 40 in full son with a nice breeze and while the paint fell relatively warm the actual temp was low 40's.
    My reg wash and dry routine was fine with the exception of nearly numb fingers :P but EXPRESS WAX would nice remove and perform for NOTHING!
    I would apply the product and wipe only to have it dry in 10 seconds and not wipe clean ... the first pass on the MF yielded removal of the wax but left behind a residue the would buff clean. My process for complete removal was with the use of 151 at 1:1.
    I tried to let it set for about 5 minutes and no luck either ... same result.
    Has anyone had any success with waxing in pretty chilly temps?
    what are my options if I get a job that requires waxing? Im guessing closed Garage?
    If anyone can shed light on ideal temps for outdoor covered waxing it would be greatly appreciated or a good cold day wax that would rock!

    After shaking the product thoroughly to ensure it is mixed well, it should flash pretty fast once applied, and it always has for me.

    My guess however, is that the paint was not pre-cleaned with a paint cleaner like SwirlX etc first. So unless the paint was not polished and waxed very recently, the Xpress Wax probably hazed became gummy and was very difficult to remove. Because it is not a cleaner wax, it does not have the ability to remove any surface contaminents which will then grab the Xpress wax making it tough to remove.

    As for cooler temps, I would use a product like Meg's M20 Polymer Sealant which I have used for over 25 years and in incredibly low temperatures! A lot colder than 40*F! Products like Xpress wax, NXT etc can become quite difficult to work with when it gets quite cold, though in the 40's should still work fine.

      I think I'm more excited that the legendary TL responded than anything else!
      You could have said "try using the warm shirt on your back and I would have!" LOL
      But about a month ago i did swirlx + gold class (LSP) the entire car with a Makita 12v orbital before the 110V2 arrived and it did look stellar ... since then I have used UQW twice and 151 every 3-4 days ...
      I think im going to point the finger at the cold temp this time since the paint had been clayed and precleaned 2 months ago ...
      I think tommorow I will try the 151 and see how that does with the DA and the chilly temperature.

        Working in the cold is not fun is it! LOLOL Try detailing at -14*C like I did one time...now that is cold! My M34 froze on the paint on contact! Plus I froze other things too!

        If the paint was cleaned 2 months ago, then I am pretty sure that is the problem as a lot of surface contaminants can be accumulated in 2 months. It is possible that the cold combined with the humidity is causing part of it, but I want you to try something first....

        Try this, take the D151, and do half the hood working it in thoroughly with the G110 with a foam polishing pad, then remove. Follow that with the Xpress Wax. If it applies and removes easily, then the paint needs to be cleaned again.

        Xpress Wax can be finicky under certain conditions, and this may be one of them. In these cases, like I said, try M20, I promise, you will LOVE it!

        One last thing, there should be no need to use a strong cleaner wax like D151 every few days as you are removing clear coat unnecessarily. Once cleaned, and swirl free, use the M20, or M21 etc, then use the Xpress Wax or UQW after each wash.

          SWEET!!
          ****small correction to my previous entry in that i dont use 151 every 3-4 days and didnt use it for removal on the gummy Express Wax but use the 155 Last Touch at every wipe down.
          But thanks again for the reply and time to get some M20 becuase detailing has been much more fun than golf these days!
