I have become more familiar with Last Touch, and I think it´s a great product, I guess you just have to learn how to use it.
Quick Detailer is also a great product with no learning curve, but LT rewards you with a better shine. For the non-enthusiast wash every month person, QD is a better choice.
Glad to hear that it is working out for you! Once you get the hang of using it, you will love it!
Scout,
I know that you were not critizing. I was just saying that a lot of people on many forums read far too much into the MSDS's of products. I can not say whether your idea will work or not. If you try it, let us know how it turns out!
As for the New V10 3 valve, it is supposed to be quite the animal!! I have 4.30 gears in mine but I do pull heavy loads!! Tundras are a really nice truck as well.
Based on my experience, less is better with Last Touch compared to the other QDs including Final Detail. I only use a 20% of a trigger pull with Last Touch. It is extremely slick and is my favorite QD product. I expected to have trouble with it on warm surfaces but I never did. Applying it sparingly has never caused a problem for me, but maybe on really dusty surfaces FI or FD may work better. When the dust is really heavy on my car, I use a California Car duster to remove the majority of it then follow up with LT or FD.
The reason that Quik Detailer works better for you is probably the spray head. The one on the Quik Detailer bottle is outstanding! Meguiar's should offer that offer it as a stand alone option that can be used with other QDs like FD and LT! When you use up the Quik Detailer, save the bottle and use it for Last Touch. Before they went to the new spray head, I had more trouble with Quik Detailer streaking than any other QD.
I have never used FD or LT for claying, just Quik Detailer or Final Inspection. FD and LT may be a little too slick for claying, but I can't speak from personal experience. When I clay I use Clay Magic and their spray lube. I swear that their lube is the #00 Hi Tech Car Wash mixed with a little bit of water. It smells just like #00!
I clay with FD 1:1 with water and it works fine, just wipe off each panel after claying. You can also split Lt with a little water to disperse the silicone in it a little which may cause some smearing. With LT I have always sprayed an MF with it to spread and a dry MF to clean off. I use it to shine rims, plastic, mostly door jambs ets.
I just wanted to post an update too. I got my Last Touch back in the spring I think? So I haven't really used it in the cold much. Now, my garage is in the upper 50's to 60F when I'm out there working. I find Last Touch to be much harder to work with in these temperatures, especially if it's cold and humid (it was pouring outside one of the days and was about 55% RH in the garage).
I like Last Touch, and it leaves a very glossy finish behind. But I think I like Final Detail better...
1990 Corvette ZR-1 Bright Red with Red interior Hear it!
2002 Aurora 4.0 Cherry Metallic with Neutral interior Hear it!
1997.5 Regal GS Jasper Green Pearl with Medium Gray interior
That will be something to compare once we get the Speed Detailer. How is it in cold temperatures? If it's anything like Tech Wax or Spray Booster Wax it should be good.
In my experience, QDs don't like temperature extremes, and cold seems to be more of a problem. Detailers that live in warm climates probably wonder what we're talking about. 16 degrees in Indiana, about 50 degrees in the garage, and using a QD, even FD, is almost impossible! It does not want to wipe off, period.

Hello manueljlg,
There are a few things that can cause smearing when using any mist and wipe product, and they can usually be traced to either application, or environment. Last Touch Detailer Spray contains more lubricities, silicones and optical enhancers than any of our mist and wipe products, which is why it brings out such a high gloss. But keep in mind that the product's strength is in it's ability to bring out a high gloss (i.e. before delivery to a customer after detailing), rather than to remove contaminants on a regular basis. As you have discovered, using the product sparingly will yield the best results. But also make sure to flip your micro fiber cloth over to a dry portion for the final wipe, as this is also very important.
As for the environment; using any mist and wipe product on a surface that is warm or hot the touch will cause the product to start drying and possibly smear. Make sure that the panels are cool to the touch. On the other hand, when the temperature is too cold out, there is usually more condensation in the air, which in turn can cause smearing. Think of what your windows look like on a cold morning before you defrost them. This does not help with our application either. The way you are currently using the product is the best way to use it.
Originally posted by scout According to the MSDS, Final Detail had some surfactants (car wash shampoo ingredients) in it.
With the surfactants, the silicone in Final Detail was more likely to slicken the sliding-off of surface contaminants, I guess. (Better for claying, as you say? I've never clayed.)
Without the surfactants, the silicone in Last Touch is more likely to stick to the surface, if that's what you want, for shine.
Adding a little bit of car wash shampoo to Last Touch might make it perform more like Final Detail, if that's what you prefer.
I'm not an expert, and I could be wrong. I just consulted the MSDS's.
While I have no doubts that you had the best intentions with the above recommendation scout, I must advise that you (or anyone else) NOT MIX CAR WASH SHAMPOO WITH YOUR MIST AND WIPE PRODUCTS. Car wash shampoos can spot the surface if they are allowed to dry. So it would be unwise to spread a concentrated shampoo across the surface with no intentions of rinsing it completely off afterward.
I hope this helps.

Jose, thanks for the clarification about the QDs. The gloss that Last Touch provides is amazing! I don't do very much QD' ing when it is extremely cold and so that is not a big issue. Do you know if the NXT Speed Detailer will have the same properties as Last Touch?
If a paint surface is dusty, would it be preferable to use #34 instead of Last Touch?

The NXT Speed Detailer does have similar properties as Last Touch in terms of creating a high gloss, however the chemical composition of the two products are not the same. The NXT Speed Detailer is very a slick formula (which improves the ability to safely remove contaminants), but also wipes off with ease. It is also the first clear mist and wipe product to be produced.
AutoNova's method of removing wax residue with Quik Detailer does work great, I often use it for the same purpose. Just use the product sparingly if you decide to use it after waxing.
Last week I actually had the oppurtunity to work more in depth with all of the new products (and accesories) in conjuction with each other and I must say that they really are fantastic. I was amazed by some of the accessories. We actually used the body brushes on Barry's '57 Chevy Bel Air, and they really do work. In fact, if anyone is going to be in the Phoenix, AZ area next week, we will have our big rig there for the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale. If anybody would like to come to our booth, please feel free to do so. I will gladly help anyone with any of our products and how to use them best. Not to mention using the new accessories. Just come on over to the show.
