Problems with Last Touch

I have been using Last Touch since last week, and I have noted that if I apply too much or don´t wipe it off real well it leaves smears (I hope it´s the right term) marks. I have used it with a Ultimate Wipe MF towel in both of my vehicles, and after a few hours I see marks of the last touch on my paint. While I really like the smell and shine of the product, I´m disappointed with the outcome.
I have been using Quick Detailer for a while now, and I have never had this problem.

Sorry to hear about your smearing issue manuel. I'm pondering a couple different things:

A.) you got a bad batch
B.) using too much product
c.) not wiping correctly

These are just things I'm pondering. Maybe Mike can help you with this one or 2hotford or just anyone with experience with this product. I do know that Last Touch does contain silicone and that I've also learned that formulations between Final Detail and Last Touch are similar. I still have about 1/2 gallon left of FD and love the stuff. When I first started using it I noticed that alittle goes a long way especially. So If I'm doing a larger panel on my truck for instance, I spritz the trigger on the spray bottle and as I'm spraying I swoop the bottle across the panel and this works great for me and I get very little smearing. Know the technique I'm talking about?? Spritz and swoop I like to call it. Try this and see how it works for you, if not then maybe Call Meguiars or one of the pros can chime in,,,,,,,,AR

Sorry to hear about your issues with Last Touch. The only time I had difficultly using LT is when the humidity is quite high. Here is what I do.

I use two MF Ultimate Wipes; one for applying and one for drying. I do a VERY light mist with a sweeping motion over a given area. I then apply it with the Ultimate Wipe. (I also prime the MF with a quick mist as well.) I then wipe dry with another Ultimate Wipe MF.

Give the above a try! I believe it will help!!

Using 2 Utimate Wipes!? prime 1 one of them with QD?? Man 2hotford, If I was closer by, I would seriously consider you to detail my truck

The same thing happens to me. It's because of the amount of product, as was mentioned. 2Hot's two-towel method should help, and I just flip/fold the towel more often, and usually use two to QD the car.

When the car is clean after a wash, I'll just use it real sparingly, but when the car is dusty and getting a wipe-down, I'm not comfortable with just using a tiny amount of QD. So that's when I get some streaking, but fresh toweling is all it takes.

Last Touch does seem more streak-prone than Final Detail. Last Touch also seems to dry faster, which makes it easier to use if you use a little bit, but harder if you use more. I think Final Detail might have been more fool-proof, though it took more time to get it to dry on a panel.

That´s the exact problem that I´m having. LT seems to be thicker and have more lubricants than QD. When my cars are not clean I like to use a lot of QD and use the UW towel the least possible, when I did this with LT I got streaks.

I've never used LT yet, but I've noticed the same problem when using FD as a clay lube.

From what I heard so far, I think FD is the better of the two, as I have seen very liittle streaking when using FD as a quick detailer.

Maybe 2Hot's suggestions will do the trick for you Manuel.

According to the MSDS, Final Detail had some surfactants (car wash shampoo ingredients) in it.

With the surfactants, the silicone in Final Detail was more likely to slicken the sliding-off of surface contaminants, I guess. (Better for claying, as you say? I've never clayed.)
Without the surfactants, the silicone in Last Touch is more likely to stick to the surface, if that's what you want, for shine.

Adding a little bit of car wash shampoo to Last Touch might make it perform more like Final Detail, if that's what you prefer.

I'm not an expert, and I could be wrong. I just consulted the MSDS's.

MSDS are not an ingredients list. I think too many people read far too much in to the MSDS, rather than their intended purpose.

Meguiar's Last Touch is an excellent product and leaves a tremendous gloss and a slick surface.

Meguiar's chemists spend a great deal of time making the best products possible. Rest assured, if they have used a chemical etc in a product, it will only benefit the finish.

I trust Meguiar's, and seek understanding too. That's why I'm spending time in this forum. I've spent a lot on Meguiars products lately, but only after understanding the function of each one. And I've learned a lot. My helpful explanation, above, makes sense. But again, I am no expert. (But I bet if I added some Deep Crystal Wash to LT it would be slipperier!)

(By the way, the Superduty with 3-valve V10 and 6-speed was my first choice in trucks, after I studied trucks. I settled for an '05 Tundra V6 with 6-speed for now, for various reasons. It is geared low. )

I posted this thread few weeks ago and I would like to update it.
I have become more familiar with Last Touch, and I think it´s a great product, I guess you just have to learn how to use it.
Quick Detailer is also a great product with no learning curve, but LT rewards you with a better shine. For the non-enthusiast wash every month person, QD is a better choice.
