Meguirs Mirror Glaze vs 3M 39000 Range

Pardon me if this has already been discussed or is common knowledge, but does anyone else notice a distinct similiarity between the Meguirs Mirror Glaze and the 3M 39000 Range?

Is this a case of flattery on one side or the other in terms of the numbering scheme? Perhaps one makes for the other? Perhaps one reverse engineers the other?

Does anyone know for sure?

I have both 3M 39526 Show Car Paste Wax and Meguiars M26 Hi-Tech Paste Wax and while they are quite similar, I don't think they are the same. The MSDS sheet show up some differences where the data is available on both sides.

Who knows?

I dunno...

3M does own Meguiars... but Meguiars didnt change their numbering system at all when they were bought.

When those products were named the two companies were not affiliated with one another.

My personal thought on this would be to say that the similar names were likely intentional so body shops would associate them in that way, but it was not intended to mean the products are the same.

Again, just a guess...but they were not made by one or the other and then just re-labeled.

Meguiar's is 3M's $58m investment. Why would it buy the 100 year old brand name to sell some rebadged 3M products?

Only Ford would do that... ie. Mazda3, Focus, Volvo S40, Jaguar X-type, Mondeo, etc... jk
