  • Some love for Meguiars #81

This is a polish you don't read a lot about. I absolutely adore #7 and I'm really enjoying #3 by rotary. This evening when I got home, I found my wife's black convertible covered in bird bombs - the bonnet was peppered with splatter and there was a huge dump on the boot.

I set to with an rinseless wash to get the bonnet wiped down and it came clean without any perceptible marring. The boot did also, except for where the dump was and I had some marring to clean up - Meguiars #9 sorted that out lovely! I did that by hand, since I have been so busy with the rotary recently and wanted to tackle the job by hand to see if I could still cut it. I know the rotary would have sorted it out in no time but I get a lot of satisfaction from working by hand. Two hits - marring and light etching gone.

Back to the point in hand. I decided that the two top panels (this is a convertible, so no roof to polish) looked great and this could be my opportuinity to get my winter wax on, but I wanted them to look the best they could.

I've had a bottle of #81 in my cupboard for some time and with no #7 in the house and no desire to get the rotary out, I though it about time I used it.

Wow! What a great polish! It is more akin to #3 in many respects, but has something else in there which I think I can smell in #9 and even #26 (the liquid version). I guess that's the magic that makes it good to go by hand.

In use, it delivered what I would have expected from #7 without the sometimes problematic application and had such a great depth, it seemed a shame to pop a wax over.

... a polish that is often overlooked, I just wanted to share my great experience and big it up a little. Nice one Meguiars.
