    Hi Everyone,

    I applied another coating of #16 to my car for the winter. However, this time I really tried to use less amount. I noticed it after I buffed it out by hand. An hour later I saw some streaks at a few places so I grabbed again my mf and buffed it which I did'nt mind.

    This morning before going to work I saw some streaks again. I'm very sure I did not apply a lot of product because I actually applied more product from my previous applications. I also apply panel by panel, coz it sure is harder to buff off when it gets dry.

    The conditions whenI applied were, cool car surface, inside a garage, well ventilated. About 15 C, which is probably the last warm weather in Canada before it temp. drops below freezing.

    Any reasons why it was like that? Should I just use QD and rebuff it off?

    Hi fpalattao,

    A couple of notes:

    M16 needs to dry before you remove it. M16 is not a wipe-on, wipe-off product. It needs to dry to a haze before your remove it. M16 is a very much like what is referred to as a heavy wax or a hard wax in that when it has fully dried, it can be difficult to remove if you apply to thick of a coat.

    The best way to use the M16 is to apply a very thin coating. Allow it to dry to a haze and then remove it. You might find a very soft, thick pile 100% cotton towel will work better at breaking-up the continuous layer of wax to remove it. After you have removed 90% of the wax, then go back over the finish using a fresh clean, very soft cotton towel, or a premium quality microfiber.

    Sometimes when removing M16 after you have remove the wax from a panel, you will see what looks almost like a scratch. This isn't a scratch, but fine streak, or actually a fine, thin strip of the M16 wax that didn't get removed.

    If you see this, go back over it gently with a soft clean microfiber polishing cloth, or a 100% cotton towel and softly wipe it till it's gone.

    When it comes to M16 Professional Paste Wax, thin coats are better and mandatory to avoid difficulty in removal. Also, as temperatures become colder, after the M16 dries, it will then set-up and harden and become even more difficult to remove if you have applied to much product.
    • * Thin, thin coats, applied evenly
      * Big, soft fluffy terry cloth towels
      * Patience and a gentle touch

      Hey,

      Mike is right on the money....thin, thin, thin..did I mention...thin, coats when applying #16.

      In our colder climate, the wax may set-up at different speeds. Therefore, perform the Swipe Test:



      This will really make life easier knowing when the time is just right to remove the product!

        Is it safe to remove #16 with a MF bonnet over my PC and the do a final step by hand with a MF towel?

          M16 Professional Paste Wax isn't really the kind of wax you remove with a microfiber bonnet on a foam pad using the dual action polisher. It usually requires a little more force than this to loosen it's grim and remove. I suppose if you apply a whisper thin coating, it may be possible, but usually your best bet for removing a layer of M16 is with your hand and either a fluffy, 100% cotton terry cloth towel, or a quality microfiber polishing cloth.

          Correctly used, M16 is very different than most waxes on the market. It's only intended for finishes in new condition, or pre-cleaned and pre-polished. This mean the surface has to be clean and smooth.

            I have found that very thin coats of #16 will haze very quickly, usually within about a minute, I can buff off the excess. I do rewipe the entire vehicle when I am finished and have never had the wax rehaze. The key is thin coats.

            While products like Souveran or S100/P21S can be wiped off immediately, #16 doesn't take a whole lot longer. Instead of applying to just half the hood or just one fender with Souveran or S100, with #16, I will apply it to the entire hood or a couple of sections before removing.

              Have you ever wondered how much product you really leave behind if you remove it immediately? Just curious.

              Meguiar's waxes must dry before removing. Part of the reason is so that the ingredients have time to set-up and thus some portion of them will remain on the surface instead of being wiped-off.

              Whenever I come across a product that recommends wiping it off immediately, a red flag goes up and I have to wonder if the reason why is because it becomes very difficult to remove if left on the surface.

              I know P21S is not difficult to remove if left to dry and thin coats are applied, same for all of the Pinnacle products. But I do wonder just how much material is actually left behind if you simply wipe-on, wipe-off?

              It seems when I do this, I have removed, most of what I have applied.

                This might be a stupid question, but where do I find #16 on the E-Store? I have never seen this product till now. Is this a LSP? And how would you prefer to apply it, before or after NXT? Thanks

                    also i used my G100 to apply and remove and now consider myself a paste guy because of the good experiance i had with it on both cars, i use it as a stand alone LSP.

                      You might try HERE , they still had some the last time I checked. You'll have to look around the site to find it though (sorry, no direct link).

                      Yeah, it's a LSP. I'd apply it *after* the NXT if you want to use them both. Apply it thin or you'll have a little workout getting it off And yeah, I apply and remove it by machine too, works great.
