  • Just how much product to use?

Ok this has been one of my main problems for a long time now and I would like to get this resolved once and for all. I've replied in other threads and have seen other threads like this before but was never sucessfully able to get a straight answer.

When polishing, it usually takes me a better part of 5-6 hours. I have a gut feeling that tells me I'm using too much product and I'm pretty sure I am. This is what I do. I prime my pad per Meguiars instructions with the quick shot of FI and the X thing and then start polishing either say 1/2 fender or the whole fender depending on how big the fender is.

After I polish the fender, I continue my procedure by applying the product in a thin line circle around the edge of the pad. Eventually to me, it seems like I have too much product on the pad and the product is always a bear to wipe off with an Ultimate Wipe off.

Someone please tell me what am I doing wrong please and how much product to use??? AR

What polish are you speaking of?

I have trouble removing #81 or #7 with a MF. I use a terry to help break up, then buff with a MF to shine. With #80, #82, or #83 the MF removes no problem.

In my experience at least, I usually give the pad a good wipe down with a cheap terry cloth towel about half way through the job to get rid of some of the buildup if it is a large car. However, I am usually able to get through an average size car with a single pad. Once the pad is setup, you don't have to use nearly as much product to get the job done.
I think you might just be overloading the pad with product. I find myself accidenlty doing it on occasion and suffer the same problem you are having.

Overuse of product can make the surface too slippery and prevent the diminishing abrasives from abrading the paint.

I usually have the most trouble with DACP. The stuff kicks royal *** but man, it's a ***** to buff off!! It's even worse with #82

Maybe I should try using like a small thin line across the pad instead of the circle thing.

Yea this is another thing that bothers the hell out of me There is ssssoooo many variables when it comes to polishing. Too much product, too little product, not the right pad, going too fast, going too slow, too much pressure, not enough pressure. I mean,,,,,DAYUM!!!!!

I'll have to get some terry towels from like Kohls or something. But right now I can't even afford socks
