What is the time called from when your product first starts cutting to the time it stops cutting? SMAT's
What affects this time the most? Heat? Pressure? Speed?
M105 and M205, which one has this longer "play time"?

    Re: product question?

You are talking about the product's working time, but keep in mind that with SMAT products the abrasives do not have a working cycle like traditional diminishing abrasives. Instead you need to pay attention to the lubricating agents in the product and as they start to dry you want to stop buffing and wipe away.

As for what affects it "most," that is really impossible to say since there are so many variables to consider. It really is a combination of heat and speed that likely play the biggest role, though.

M105 (original formula) had a fairly quick work time well under a minute, and sometimes less than 30 seconds. The new version has a considerable amount of added working time, but not as much as M205.

One thing to be careful about with M205 though is that the product will seem like it can literally be worked for close to eternity as it takes a considerable amount of time to fully dry. Depending on the method of application, speed, and weather you typically will want to work M205 for somewhere between 30 and 60 seconds. If you go too long (with a rotary) you might reach a point of diminishing returns and possibly "dry buff" the area and cause light holograms. It's easily avoidable by simply sticking to a working time around a minute or less.
