  • New 105 questions

I still have about a half of a gallon of the older 105 and I have been using it with my Flex RO on correction work. I maybe working the product too long, but it dusts like crazy. It seems to be easier to remove if I keep working the product after it starts to dry, then it wants to dust but will remove itself onto the pad and removal seems to be easier, but i have to deal with the dust cleanup issues. I noticed this past weekend I started out using a maroon cutting pad, priming it and cleaning it after every panel, then I switched to a yellow Solo wool pad, that seemed work better, but then I ended up with a LC purple foamed wool pad which I stuck with. Am I working it too long? Also, does the new 105 dust less or is it easier to remove?

I have been following it up with 205 on a finishing pad or a polishing pad with great results, but I would like to know if there's a more efficient way on using the 105.

    Any advice would be appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Tom

        Re: New 105 questions

I ran into this today. It's the first time I used 105 and I tried it with my Cyclo and Flex. I ended up using the Cyclo for the entire job. I tried a few things but the only thing that really worked was more pressure. When I applied more pressure to the heads the product dusted very little and seemed to work better. I'm not sure if this is an actual cure, but for whatever reason it worked for me.

        OH and 205 rocks !!

If it dusts a lot try priming your pad with 105 first. After polishing for a bit and it dusts, clean your pad on the fly and add some more 105. Hope that helps a lil

Same issue here, I'm using a Flex with 105 on a Edge Yellow Speed 5. It dries way to fast, Can't even make it past the third pass.

              Re: New 105 questions

Thanks for the replies everyone, I had posted this right before our midwest get together and after speaking with Jason Rose about it and trying the new formula, the new formula seemed to dust less. I opted to buy a gallon on of the new formula, and on my own, took a bottle and mixed 50/50 with the old 105 and new 105, atleast this way I can use up all of my old 105.

Also, thanks for the pressure tip JST4FN and the pad priming tip Sal329, I had been priming the pad, but I think it's just the nature of the beast with this product seeing how it removes defects and leaves a really nice finish behind, I can just keep trying to refine my technique.

Although not the same product, I put a few drops of M07 when I was using Ultimate Compound on my boys' '67 Dodge D100 single stage paint to knock down oxidization when I had some dusting going on.....Worked like a charm! The finish was so good we went straight to M20 with a coat of M16 to follow!
