Hi..ive tried to follow up 83 with 9 but it seems to leave hazing. I used 83 first with the Sonus orange pad then 9 with the blue pad. So i tried same procedure but this time i followed 83/orange with 83/green pad and it looked perfect in sunlight,no hazing. My question is can or should i stop here and go onto a pure polish then wax, Or should i still follow it up with 80?? Is there anything to gain with 80 ? My understanding is that 80 or 9 are used to clean up what 83 left,is this right? Does anyone stop with 83 and go right to wax or a pure polish? thx

Skipping #80 after #83?

If the surface looks good to your eye and has no hazing after 83 I would say it's fine to skip to waxing. I have done this a couple of times but usually only on light-colored cars. On darker cars I tend to use 80 and maybe a pure polish before waxing.
Best thing to do would be to make a test spot of 83 followed by your favorite wax and see how it looks.
Good luck!

Well, if you don't see any type of hazing whatsoever left by the DACP, then I would suggest that you can move on to the pure polish.. Then you can apply your LSP afterwards.. I wouldn't suggest skipping your pure polish because this is what makes your paint look deep, rich and very glossy... What it does is that it replaces the polishing oils that was taken away from the paint and filling in the "holes" or "pores" of the paint.. This would actually help the oxidation process take longer or harder to actually happen..
Anyway, you can also use #80 as a finish-up to #83 and it could also act as a polish step since it's rich in polishing oils.. But if you have the extra time, it wouldn't hurt to apply a pure polish afterwards, right?
BTW, the pure polishes really works great on dark colored cars.. Light color cars have minimal visual effect but I'm sure that your paint is very happy that you did it.
Hope this helps.2011 Car Crazy Showcase SEMA Team

Hey,
Using #82 or #9 after the #83 will usually add a slight bit of refinement to the finish. I have found that it will usually add a little more gloss and depth to the paint. The key with using the #9 or #82 is not to over-work it. When used with a W-9006 Finishing Pad with the PC set to speed 4-5, the results will be incredible!!!

Hey,
I am not familiar with the Sonus pads. But, if it is a Finishing pad similar to the Meguiar's pad, then it should work fine.
I like to use the W-9006 Finishing Pad with the #82 or #9 as it will allow a finer finish IMHO. But it does depend how the finish was completed during the previous step. If you have hard paint, and/or some hazing from #83 etc, then following with the W-8006 Polishing Pad may be needed. However, generally, at least 80% of the time, I use the W-9006 Finishing with the #82 or #9.

Yea its the finishing pad. I dont understand this but after I do 83 the finish looks perfect,I can take a halogen light to it in a dark garage and there is no micro marring at all. This is the weird part,if i try 9 with a softer pad(blue) it leaves micro marring. So I did the 83 again and got it perfect, then tried a pure polish(step 2 deep crystal) and i get the same thing. Should i just go straight to NXT next time?John 3:16

Hey,
If you are getting micro-marring from the #9, then you may be working it too long.
If the finish looks great after the #83, then you can move on to a glaze and wax or just a wax. The choice will depend on your tastes.
Perhaps try a small isolated area with the #9 again. But this time, do not work it as long. Keep the speed around 4 and see if that helps!

hey thanks 2hotford,Ive tried 9 several different ways and still get them. What Im seeing is very fine because im using a flashlight in a dark garage and I just tried NXT directly after the perfect 83 gloss and I see them after the NXT to. Its as if I touch it at all with anything it leaves these super tiny marrings. You really have to look to see them, but side by side next to the 83 part of the hood you can see the overall dullness, maybe thats not the right word, its just not as crisp and sharp as the 83 side. Is this just normal micro scratching?John 3:16

Hey,
You may have very soft paint that marks very easily.
Are you sure that the marring is actually all gone after the #83? Are you using a fresh buffing pad and a fresh MF towel for each product? Finally, you need to make sure that all of the DACP has been removed from the cracks and crevices as your buffing pad on the next step (#9) may be picking up the dried residue and buffing it into the paint. This may create micro-marring.

Should I alchohol wipe it down after 83? Another wierd thing is that the 83 will leave the marring with a fresh pad,but ive found that after a few applications it seems that the pad/product get to a perfect ballance and then it leaves a perfect gloss. But the first 3 or 4 passes will leave the fine haze. This is getting frustrating, lol thxJohn 3:16

Hey,
I would not worry about the the iso/water wipe down. Instead, I would work the #83 the same as normal and focus on the technique for the #9. The finishing part of the detail can be the hardest to master.
As for the pad, make sure to prime the pad first. I have always advocated using a large, thick "X" of product, on the pad. This will prime the pad and prevent a dry buff situation.
