#84 with a PC?

Hey,

Meguiar's #84 Compound Power Cleaner is designed to be used with the rotary buffer only.

Using a PC, the diminishing abrasives in the product would not be broken down properly. As a result, the finish would have a dull and hazy look to it.

The strongest product Meguiar's recommends for the PC is the #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish and a W-8006 Polishing Pad.

thanks 2hotford... i was just wondering because its taking me about 8 passes with 83 to "get'r done" Is it because the PC isnt aggresive enought to break 84 down? thx

Hey,

Yes, that is correct. The PC, while an awesome tool, does not have the power to break the product down properly. If the swirls are not coming out after a few passes, you may need to find someone experienced in using a rotary buffer to eliminate the swirls.

The G-100 dual action polisher, (PC), is limited to what it can remove. If the #83 with the yellow W-8006 foam polishing pad on the 5.0 setting doesn't remove the defect, then instead of getting more aggressive with the dual action polisher, the defect will require the use of a rotary buffer, or you will need to learn to live with the defect. Getting more aggressive with the dual action polisher will tend to dull the finish down or micro-mar it to the point that the average person cannot recover from it.

PC+83 not "cutting" it!

Here's a pictures of Tim's, (aka forum member svt150tim), new-to-him Ford Lightning with a factory clear coat finish over white basecoat.

Here are the results after 10 minutes of compounding using #84 Compound Power Cleaner with a W-7006 foam cutting pad on about 1800 rpm.



We tried to remove the cobweb-effect using the G-100 with a W-8006 polishing pad and some #83 DACP but it had no visible effect.


The clear coat finish on this truck is as hard as glass, the only way to remove the swirls in the finish is to machine compound with a rotary buffer.

The point is, there is only so much a dual action polisher like the Meguiar's G-100 can do, once you reach it's limit, and it's not removing the defect, then it's time to substitute a rotary buffer or if you don't own a rotary buffer, and/or the skills to operate one correctly then you will need to take your car to a professional who is trained and experienced with the proper use of the rotary buffer.
