  • Difference between #7 & #45?

I was at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and noticed they had an extensive line of Meguiar's products. I wound up buying a bottle of Flagship Ultimate Detailer because it seems like the same stuff as Ultimate Detailer from the local auto stores. I also noticed the description of #45 was exactly the same as #7. Are they the same stuff? It would be nice to just get it at Bass Pro since I can just use my reward points to pay for them. I'm also wondering about #56 & #26. The description seemed exactly the same.

The product you listed are similar, for example the polishes are both non-abrasive pure polishes, the waxes are both non-abrasive pure polishes, the formulas are tweaked for the environment they are used in and the surface they are applied to.

Sometimes the differences are subtle, sometimes they are dramatic but only the chemists have access to this information.

Meguiar's recommends matching products from our different product lines to the project you're working on for maximum benefits.

    What are you working on?

I would be using the stuff for my cars. (Specifically, SS white Accord, red Prelude and pearl white IS350) I was hoping I could use the aforementioned products on my cars because I can purchase them with my BPS Reward points. I already purchased the Flagship Ultimate Detailer to use on my vehicles. Should I return it?

Meguiar's likes to keep our customers using products from the correct product line for the projects they're working on; when you start using products from one line into a different market you run the risk creating problems and not getting the maximum benefits and features for the surface you're working on.

There's a real danger of using any of the abrasive products in the Marine Line on cars, trucks and s.u.v.s because these products tend to be more aggressive than automotive products and automotive paints tend to be thinner than marine gel-coats and coatings.

If we start posting recommendations on this forum about how it's okay to mix and match product lines the potential result is for someone to start thinking it's all the same stuff just in different bottles and then they'll apply one of our aggressive compounds from the Marine Line onto the paint of their car and possibly destroy it because it's the wrong product for the job.

So we shy away from making any recommendations for using Marine products on cars, and Auto products on boats because of the possible problems associated with this from a big picture point of view especially in light of the fact that most people are scanners and don't read all the available information on this forum or anywhere for that matter and then mistakes are made.

The best product for your car's auto paints will be products from either our Consumer Line or our Professional Line.

That said, if you stick with the non-abrasive products from our Marine Line on your car's paints, you won't hurt anything but we don't have an official recommendation for this and again we try to steer people away from this practice.

Neither M45 or M56 will harm your car's paint, in a perfect world you would stick with our automotive line of products.
